There's the celebrity aspect, too, which isn't really for me.

moonvine -> RE: The bottom part of the boards (11/30/2008 12:49:58 PM)

I've been on CM for 4 years, and didn't discover the boards until relatively recently, and didn't discover the bottom of them until even later.  I think in any BDSM board there are only so many ways you can say the same thing over and over and there are always newbies who need/want to know the same things and ask the same questions.  The search feature is useful (if you know about it, which many newbies may not) but then if you actually want to respond to something people complain because you bring up old threads.

I started posting on BDSM bulletin boards on Prodigy maybe 14 years ago now, I don't even know how long ago it was and then it was all new and different and it really was my only outlet.  There were local groups but only in the very big cities or else hidden so well underground I would not have had a way to find them.   Even when that was my only outlet and it was all fresh and new there was only so much talking about stuff I could do.

Right now the bottom part is great because I am depressed to the point I can't focus enough to do something like watch tv or read a book, but I can focus enough to make a post in PORS.

I hear this means at some point you will have to eat cockroaches and other bugs in the Australian outback. This is how they prove themselves.

cravesdom -> RE: The bottom part of the boards (11/30/2008 12:56:17 PM)

I will post occasionally on the top portion, but to be honest no one has ever criticized me here in the bottom part of the boards. On the top I see far too much criticism. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I don't think you need to put someone else down in order to give it.

lusciouslips19 -> RE: The bottom part of the boards (11/30/2008 2:00:27 PM)

I entered the boards during a very snarky time. Hey, I have thick skin and I didn't mind and kinda liked it. But as things progressed and those of us who loved sarcasm and others sense of humor and wanted to play on the boards. Well, mods didn't like the thread jacking. So we created some threads where we could talk to each other without impunity. So these lower parts of the boards have some good topics and a heck of alot of fun and some wonderful support for those who need it. We revel in each others successes and we support each other through the trials and tribulations. I come to the boards not only to talk about BDSM but to meet people I have things in common with that I can talk about anything I want to talk about and maybe talk about nothing intelligent at all. A place I can be myself and have fun.

The top part of the boards seems to be for the newbies to ask the same questions over and over again and for the elders to answer and for Lady Albatross to then post with links of all the other threads that discussed the topics already! I give my opinion when I have one or a thought I want to share. I am not very political but If I have a view on something, I will give it but arguing til insults is not something I seek to do( mind you I have had my less than stellar moments) and my ego is not so big that I always have to be right. I like to learn share my views and have the freedom to learn and change from those who have shown me a different way to think about something.

As far as this board being everyone from this side of the pond(U.S.), thats a very simplistic and limiting view. The people I have learned the most from have sometimes been from elsewhere. Those of you from the other side of the pond, well, you blow me away with your intelligence, knowledge and wit. I truly hope that this place never becomes only people who think like me.

GoddessDustyGold -> RE: The bottom part of the boards (11/30/2008 2:12:39 PM)

I still read daily and post occasionally to the Mistress Board, and I scan the General BDSM topics and make an effort to check out the Alternative Lifestyles and Health and Safety Boards.  I find that it is mostly a rehash of things that have already been done to death.  However, if something is approached that is kind of new or from a newer angle I take more time.  Even then I find often that someone else has already expressed My views better than I could have, so I don't bother to post.
But My time is limited and I just have a better time here.  I also feel I can get a better take on the people in this venue.  It is better conversation (for Me), more stimulating (for Me) and there is a wide variety of topics every single day!  I do get tired of seeing the same questions being asked or situations being posed when there is already an active thread on the same subject just two headlines down.
And yes, there is that thing about being able to say "butt plug" and no one is going to be offended.[8D]

CollarMe is a BDSM oriented website. I've been participating on these boards for a few years now and I've learned some amazing things here about how others look at BDSM. BDSM is the reason that I am here. There are other areas of the boards that deal with many topics that are not BDSM related that I also like to participate on down here in these sections of the boards. Many of the folks here post all over the place. But there is a large group of posters who only post to these lower sections and never venture into the upper half of the boards which is the "meat" of the site.

I don't ask this to be disrespectful but more out of a "hmmmm, I wonder why?". For those of you who don't ever participate in the BDSM related topics.....why this site? It would seem to me that there are sites more directly related to politics....and there are lots of chatrooms that are similar to the "random stupidity" section. If BDSM wasn't what you were interested in, why was CollarMe a draw for you?

I have found that I enjoy a certain amount of emotional pain.  So, on the two days in the week that I can, I come to this board and read the entries of the three conservative fellows who tend to hold court.  That usually satifies my weekly need for a pain fix and it is free.  Some of the entries by those three conservative fellows are truly BDSM to me in the truest sense of the word.  So, the lower board  can also BDSM to me when I read the conservative entries.

Also, I will note that the individuals on this board ( including the conservative fellows) are intellectually superior to the individuals on other sites.

Correction as to conservatives:  I should not have used "conservative" and "intellectually superior" in the same sentence.  Sorry.

TNstepsout -> RE: The bottom part of the boards (11/30/2008 3:03:33 PM)

I still participate a little on the other boards, but most of what is discussed there has either been discussed to death, or is something I know nothing about and so have nothing to offer to the conversation.

thornhappy -> RE: The bottom part of the boards (11/30/2008 3:13:03 PM)

(fast reply)

I hang out, for the most part, on the lower side.  Why not on the upper?

1)  Many of the posts are repetitious.
2)  I like to keep the ins and outs of my relationship largely private.  Besides, I'm one of those most evil of beings, a bottom (horrors!)
3)  P&RS is just a silly place to hang out.  If you think it's "cliquey", just jump in.

The lower boards are sweetness and light compared to the ones on "that other site".

Why not vanilla boards?  They won't get the jokes about spanking. [:D]

thishereboi -> RE: The bottom part of the boards (11/30/2008 5:19:36 PM)

I go to the other boards, but I spend most of my time here. For me, it is because most of the topics on the BDSM boards are aimed at Het relationships and the issues that go along with them. Those things don't interest me so I don't spend much time reading those threads.

TheHeretic -> RE: The bottom part of the boards (11/30/2008 6:16:19 PM)

I like the crowd in here.

I started out posting here strictly in the 'upstairs' section, but have drifted down to off topic, and here I remain.  Too much of the "one twue way," and the same questions cycling endlessly.  I may be kinkier than a cheap garden hose, but "The Lifestyle" isn't the defining element of my life, and it's not a goal to change that.  My thoughts on the 24/7 Ds/Ms dynamic is that it's not for me.  I'll weigh in on a switching thread once in a while, but only to repeat myself.

In Off Topic though, we have a large group of intelligent, articulate folk, brought together by something very different from the topic of the moment.  The diversity of thought and opinion, and the percentage of people posting, who have active minds is excellent.

Something else to keep in mind is that this is a side service of a personals site.  If people are here, I assume they are kinky, and interested in meeting other kinky people, be it for Mr/Miss Right, Miss/Mr Right Now, leading to, new friends or just a touch of thank God I'm not the only one.  They are connecting.  Does it matter if we aren't interested in the best width of a posture collar?

I have been on CM for years, though Mod Issues kept me from posting for a long time.  [:@]   I go on and off with my interest in the areas outside Ask A Mistress, and I get tired of the same old topics, but I have real life FRIENDS in Random Stupidity, and that's where I hook up!  We have our share of pervage, trust me.

So why am I involved in a BDSM site when I don't do what many on CM seem to think is "the" reason to get involved in BDSM?  Because I AM involved in BDSM - Bondage, Discipline, Sado-Masochism - just not in power exchange games.  I still have a profile because I enjoy meeting people that share at least some of my interests (at least sometimes.)  I still have a profile because I've never gotten around to deleting it, and I still enjoy the disccusions on THIS end of the boards.  I still have it because it amuses me, at times when I need to be amused, to watch those who consider themselves "standard" in BDSM display so little tolerance for those portions of the same hobby that they consider "non-standard".  Because I like to laugh at those who turn a hobby into a pseudo-religious "lifestyle" choice.  Because I can.

[sm=agree.gif]    especially second last line. Ideally I would meet a man with similar views, I'm all for some D/s type roles during S&M as I found it suits my headspace to have the complete reliability of the D (oer) looking out for my interests, it allows a much deeper space and tolerance to my experience. I give as much back in caring ways, not necessarily submissive. The bottom part of the boards interests me and gives some points of view from different countries.....the global experience.....missing in the small country town I live in. Although a little was enough of American politics.

DomKen -> RE: The bottom part of the boards (11/30/2008 10:53:50 PM)

Fundamentally I post in off topic because its one of the very few places I don't feel restrained from expressing my whole nature.

I don't generally post on the "main" parts of this forum because the threads seem a pretty steady mix of HNG garbage, "my kink is more real/authentic/etc. than yours" and abusers trying to justify their abusive behavior as part of bdsm. I get in enough trouble with our dear mod XI here without wrisking her wrath up there very often.

Rule -> RE: The bottom part of the boards (12/1/2008 3:18:25 AM)

FR

I found CM because a friend of mine had been murdered and he was a slave and I wanted to fathom his mind. So I have been fathoming the minds of all manner of people that post in these boards. It has enabled me to improve my model of the human minds.

Also I have reason to assume that by divine decree I am entitled to rule all of humanity.

The other parts of the boards are often boring. Off topic is sometimes interesting and there are a number of people posting here whoms posts are well worth reading. (I won't list them, as I am bound to forget someone, but you know who you are.)

I am also here to block the posts from my view of people who (may) get me into trouble with Mod11, or those who use illegible font. I dunno how many I have got blocked their posts now; must be more than fifty.

(Edited to add: It is less, being only 47.)

RainydayNE -> RE: The bottom part of the boards (12/1/2008 3:26:23 AM)

i tend to "post all over the place"
but i like the bottom half of the board because i don't really know a whole lot in terms of BDSM and can't contribute to alot of discussions besides reading them =p
i'm here for info and learning, so reading threads is really all i should be doing anyway, probably =p
in person i'm a horribly quiet person, but i like to run my mouth (fingers?) online =p (hence the ridiculous post count in a short period of time) =p
of course one thing that's different "down here" is that there seem to be some established "communities" of posters and a new person attempting to join in the fun isn't always welcomed i.e becomes a post-killer =p atleast until one of the "regulars" shows up and sends things back "on topic" or whatever
cliquishness knows no bounds =p not even online
the top half of the board seems to lack that, so that's nice =p

Like a number of others I started in the top bit and gradually found myself spending more time posting down below.

I found that I was answering the same questions over and over and over.  These days if something is particularly relevant or meaningful for me I will post up there but for the most part I prefer to post in the bottom sections now....it makes me happy. :)
