In the US we would call that a session of Congress....

Or a press conference with Bush..... [8D]

...so the latest development is that Harper may try to duck the whole thing by proroging (sp?) Parliament. How do you think that move will play in the court of public opinion? For myself, i think that disabling government at this time of economic uncertainty is irresponsible in the extreme and that such a move may alienate many of his own supporters......

LumusandtheLady -> RE: unprecedented political ructions in Canada (12/2/2008 9:41:04 AM)

Here's a link to a story on Yahoo about it, it also explains how Harper might ask G.G. Jean to prorogue or cut short the current session of Parliament.

........exactly, i think he is starting to come across as desperate. Rex Murphy had an excellent analysis of his actions in the last week on the CBC last night, to paraphrase he suggested that Harper couldn't see the belt of the leader of another political party without trying to hit below it.....

Lucylastic -> RE: unprecedented political ructions in Canada (12/2/2008 10:20:31 AM)

Its hard for him to raise himself above it. The arrogance is what gets me, doesnt surprise me, but just makes him lower than a snakes belly. But as someone said and I forget where, *brain dead today* They are all out for power, the coalition just makes it look more humanised. The Bloc make me queasy. Ignatieff needs to take over soon, cos Dion just doesnt have the qualities.IMNSHO .we have to wait until may?
Its a bloody mess, hang on chaps and chapettes its gonna be a bumpy ride

...actually i think that part is awesome political strategy. Let Dion take the initial flak and then Ignatieff gets to be the man on the white horse......

LumusandtheLady -> RE: unprecedented political ructions in Canada (12/2/2008 10:28:23 AM)

It's going to be interesting to see what G.G. Jean does when she gets back from Europe though. The very fact that she's cut her trip short is telling, if you ask me. It shows she at least realizes the situation is critical. Harper does too, that's why he's playing bully-boy. Could be he sees that the comfy ride is over for his party?

...just listened to PMQ's.....is it me or does Dion sound like a hamster on meth sometimes?

LumusandtheLady -> RE: unprecedented political ructions in Canada (12/3/2008 4:35:36 AM)

*roflol*

I am so glad that I'm not the only one who thought his voice is a little "off".....

On a serious note, after reading this news story, I find myself surprised that there is so much "surprise and anger" over the situation. Ummmm, hello? Weren't people paying attention to what was going on? It's not exactly like this situation developed last night..... [sm=dunno.gif]
