LumusandtheLady -> RE: unprecedented political ructions in Canada (12/1/2008 3:19:32 PM)

[:)]  You beat me to posting it, Philosophy. I've been following it with fascination. Funny thing is, I'm always hearing how Canadian politics are so boring compared to US politics. I don't think so, not with the Tories secretly taping the Coalition talks then releasing them to the press!

A ruction is a riotous disturbance/noisy quarrel.

Well, duh! This is shaping up to be more fun than the actual elections in October! [sm=lol.gif]  Did you see Newman's face when they announced Dion would lead the Coalition?  *snickers*

Is democracy in danger? Should the US invade and re-establish order [&:] ?

LumusandtheLady -> RE: unprecedented political ructions in Canada (12/1/2008 3:34:25 PM)

[:'(]  And ruin all the fun? NO! I think we're doing just fine, thanks. They can take care of their own recession. *winks*

I cant believe they are actually letting Dion do this, much as I dislike smarmypants Harper, Dion is welll... im going to be polite. Hubby has been following and is spitting nails. Its going to be verrrrrry interesting.

Maya2001 -> RE: unprecedented political ructions in Canada (12/1/2008 3:39:04 PM)

Hell this is going to be interesting ... I am just hoping the governor general does not call another election

LumusandtheLady -> RE: unprecedented political ructions in Canada (12/1/2008 3:41:15 PM)

[:(]  I was hoping Layton would lead it but I guess that would be asking too much. And of course, not very many would accept Duceppe. So does that mean Dion got it out of default?

(Egads, for not being very political, I think I follow politics a little too close, huh?)  [sm=couch.gif]

...Dion will be a placeholder until the Liberals have their leadership sorted out.....my money is on Ignatieff.....or however you spell it.......

Basically though Harper threw it all way by acting like such a bully, he ought to have known better. Minority governments can't rule as if they're majority government......i was intrigued at the suggestions that the Tory party is somewhat divided by Harpers actions.....

LumusandtheLady -> RE: unprecedented political ructions in Canada (12/1/2008 3:52:11 PM)

[sm=dunno.gif]  I'm not sure I'd use the word "bully". "Dictator" or "asshat" is closer to what I have in mind. [;)]

I understand that tight economic times call for certain measures but cutting any funding for opposing political parties and making sure your own party has all the money AND the power smacks of something dirty. Refusing to allow certain groups the right to strike no matter what happens for 3 years again smacks of something dirty and to me, removal of certain personal liberties.

What's really funny is that if you talk with my adult monsters, they'll tell you I'm one of the most conservative people they know. *snickers* Oh how little they know me!

In the US we would call that a session of Congress....
