YourhandMyAss -> You ever had a pen pal where you ended up feeling more like you were talking at them, instead of to (12/1/2008 11:31:13 PM)

I've been penpals with someone for oh I don't know about two years, and lately I'll write tons of information* she said she liked this) I'll write about me and what's going on , and at one point I even asked her not to write in cursive, cause I couldn't read it and she said oh and then continued on lol.

And when she writes back she never talks about anything I s aid, or mentions anything I said it's always about her problems, her life HER fiancee.

Infact when I told her my Dog had to be put to sleep, and there was just to much pain and grief in my life to write a letter right now cause I didn't wanna pour that ickyness on her,* cause on top of the dog my relationship was floundering and about to break off* she never answered, and then when I mentioned it she just said sorry to hear that. And when she told me her pet died I said I was sorry how are you doing are you ok?

Due to this our penpaling has slacked off a lot. IT's mostly down to emails only now.

Also despite knowing her for 2 years and telling her a bunch of times when my birthday was she never wished me a happy birthday, And I always wish her a happy birthday when it's her birthday. Infact none of the people I considered friends * who knew when my birthday was* bothered wishing my Happy birthday, Except one or two and I had to tell them hey it's my birthday.

Its time to ditch the penpal and find a new one.  Good luck sugar.

[sm=dunno.gif]  True friendship, whether penpals, online or in person, is a 2 way street, not one-way. If you've mentioned important life events like birthdays and the death of a dearly beloved pet with no response, that shows a lack of respect or caring to me. Ever see Rocky Horror Picture Show where Columbia says to Frank n Furter "all you ever do is take, take, take!"?  At some point, you need to decide whether it's worth continuing the contact on their grounds and if not, then slowly let it go. Perhaps let it slide to just birthday and Christmas cards. If the "friend" wants to continue contact, let them make the effort. Life moves on and sometimes our friends go with us and sometimes they don't, they take a different path.

Good luck. And happy birthday if you have one coming up!

I'd cut my losses with this person and make some good "in the flesh" friends.  Best of luck.

Penpals can be a lot of fun, but it has to be interactive and not just one way. It feels like this one is one way and that you're not getting any effort back from her.

I too suggest that you seek out another penpal that has the same goal as you (friendship and communication), this chick seems pretty self absorbed to me.

Thank you Lumus and the lady:)

It was November 23rd.

I saw R H P S a few years ago and never wanted to sit through it again, but Daddy loves the show :)

While in the flesh freinds are great pen pals give you something to lookforward in the mail besides junk spam and bills [:D]

Yes, then it would be Christmas cards, thank you cards and a birthday card and not much else unless she specifically contacts you if it were me. There's nothing "personal" in those, except maybe a signature, y'know?

Good luck in finding a faithful penpal. [:)]
