Doesn't have to be spelled out to realize there's probably a fair middleground between 300 and something absuard like 10 grand.

Have you not been following this thread?  It has been pointed out that ten thousand dollars for a detailed vetting is not excessive...perhaps you might avail yourself of a google search.

It's been "pointed out", but not proven.

What's been pointed out is that it's common that it costs that much.  No reason yet has been given as to why it costs such a ridiculously high amount.

What exactly do you think they do when a person is vetted for a sensitive position like secretary of state or director of homeland security?

Do you have any idea of the scope of a Top Secret clearance investigation? After I got mine I was back in town on leave and saw my 5th grade home room teacher and she mentioned being interviewed by the FBI.

Either pull the money from somewhere else

...well that's what he's doing. Getting money from somewhere else. You appear to be against private citizens donating money where they please. This confuses me, as it seems to run counter to your usual views on the subject.
I don't think he's against private citizens donating money at all. I think it's because Obama is a "Leebril".

Yes, I've been through it myself, being former military (as a COMSEC technician) and working for the federal government (and seeing first hand some of the money they just totally waste).

It's not like that phone call to your fifth grade teacher woulda cost much of anything for instance.

At the very least it took many man hours. Someone had to get my school records, in the mid 80's so that means on paper, and go through it and build a list of teachers then someone had to find phone numbers for each person, challenging since most of my schools teachers didn't live in the county, and then an investigator had to actually call and ask the questions. And that was for one 18 year old electronics tech. I'm going to assume that Secretary of State or AG gets a more in depth investigation.

Also the 11 million covers all aspects of recruiting and vetting the 1100+ officials that need to be appointed.

Guess we have different definitions of "many man hours."  School records aren't that time consuming to acquire and read through.

Truthiness -> RE: Obama uses security team to raise cash (12/5/2008 7:41:50 AM)

BTW to clarify my position, I differ a bit with CL in that I've seen enough of how the federal government works to have little doubt that the process *does* cost that much, but am firm in the belief that it's absurd that it does, and *should* cost much less.

DedicatedDom40 -> RE: Obama uses security team to raise cash (12/5/2008 7:47:13 AM)

This happens all the time.  Its not new now.  Incoming Presidents even raise outside cash to decorate and furnish the White House above and beyond what the budget allows.

Then you should be able to provide evidence that a private organization could perform the samej job in the same time frame for less. Start by showing me an executive search company willing to find 1100+ senior executives across a broad range of fields in 10 weeks for less than $11 million.

Truthiness -> RE: Obama uses security team to raise cash (12/5/2008 10:06:59 AM)

Or you could show me exactly item by item what that 11 million is spent on, and I'm sure the areas where costs could be dramatically reduced would be pretty apparent, especially for a system that has to repeat this process every 4 years.

DomKen -> RE: Obama uses security team to raise cash (12/5/2008 3:42:59 PM)

You made the claim that it can be done more cheaply. Put up or shut up.
