I do think that within the bdsm community there is a considerably higher percentage of people (Ds and Ss) with depression and other such conditions.  People with 'normal' brains generaly will be happy with the status quo and not think about alternative types of relationships.

That was actualy my point.  I've never thought of 'normal' as being a good thing.  You need to have a unique brain to see things in original ways.

I arrived at my number by pulling it out of my ass

I have no idea if there has ever been any viable study of of the variance from the standard deviation
of the general population

Not that I'm aware of, but I am, or was,  a counselor, not a physician.  My brother is a physician, I could ask him.  Ha!

manic depressive is more descriptive

bipolar disorder sounds too clinical
