OK, who is going to Christmas holiday parades, dancing in one, or going to a public tree-lighting event?  Anyone go out and sing carols or distribute toys and goods for the needy?

Well, I donate some of my time year round to a private exotic zoo near my home and every year I get dressed up like an Elf and take Reindeer to parades, childrens homes and Christmas events around Illinois and Wisconsin.

So if you see live Reindeer in Illinois, or Wisconsin, I just maybe one of the Elf's handleing the herd.

Ok, peta people, they are farm raised Reindeer, and they are bottle fed from 2 days old and are very well taken care of.

This weekend our town starts it's Hometown Christmas week with a tree lighting, caroling, free ornament making at the local art studio. Then next weekend it is the Cookie Walk where for 5 bucks you get to fill a box with your choice of 2 dozen homemade cookies and you get a cookie cook book with all this years recipes.

As for helping the needy, well we have a neighbor family that we, with a few other neighbors, are helping to cover in various ways for Christmas. And our Christmas Eve party where everybody who has no place else to be comes to eat, drink and get at least one gift.

I have a gentleman who works for me that plays Santa and my company will pay him to go to the shelters for women and children in Atlanta and the surrounding counties
to be Santa to the children there. I will be his driver and get to pass out the gifts that my employees and my company has donated. Sometimes it is really great to be the Boss!

There are a couple of towns in the foothills near me that always have evening, outdoor Christmas festivities - bonfires are going, craft and food booths are open, choirs sing, and lots and lots of people bundle up and mill about. I love it. If I can be up and around by then, I would definitely like to go. This year may be iffy, though.

My department at work is doing a toy wrapping event with the Salvation Army, but I might end up missing that, too, which is a bummer. But we have big barrels in all the major hallways where people can donate unwrapped, new toys for youngsters. Very cool.

Well on Sunday I'm going to a lady who lives here in the condos anual "cookie party."
People bring and exchange cookies and other goodies.
I've already cut and sent checks out to the homeless shelters and other charities that I support.
Also every year I buy a bunch of those "Hess trucks" that they come out with at the Hess gas stations and donate them to the Hibernian's toy drive.
I donate money "all year round" to the shelters and Red Cross as they have a need which is not only during the holidays.

Our Fire Dept. will be participating in a "Mittens for Santa" program on Sat. We do this every year with the local neighborhoods.  In the evenings we'll be taking all of the apparatus thru the neighborhoods w/Santa sitting on top of the ladder truck waving to all the kiddies.  About a week before Christmas we participate at the local Community Center for the low income. It's along the lines of "Toys for Tots".

We attend a tree lighting ceremony.  Invite those who have nowhere else to go over for dinner.
Also adopt families who just need a hand this time of year.

It isn't much but until we create more to do its what we've got for the moment.
