Charity stuff? Where are you mailing it to? I just dump my stuff off at the Toys for Tots, so much easier.

(I like the new pic btw)

You can also drop off stuff at your local fire station.

I would suggest finding something local also. I am not sure about free shipping anywhere, however I know there is a group that has gathered shoes to send overseas. They had no problem getting the shoes, but are in dire need of someone to help with shipping costs. This isn't the first time I have heard of groups getting stuff to give away and then having problems coming up with the shipping fees. I would think if there were fee shipping available they would have found it. Another thought I had when I read this thread. My church is collecting toys and food to donate for christmas. Maybe there is a church in your area that does that also.

Well a lot of the stuff is home sewn items, like hand made baby blankets and bibs and booties. And home made book marks and little crosses and tooth brushes , you know general care items.

I send it to a lady named Mary, at Online angel's she sends what are called love gans and love boxes to people who're in need of a little chear or pick me up or who've suffered from a disaster. Some of the things she sends are hand knitted throw blankets, and hand crocheted and knitted items.  Items are shipped to  Pottsville, PA 17901

Every town has loads of local religious or secular charities that would love to have your items. Maybe the old "yellow pages" would help, and they might even pick up...Just a thought..

Yeah I am working on finding out some information for the sacramento children's recieveing home, I wanna start adonation program  for kids going into the system with absolutely nothing, if they don't have a donations program already.

I'llp robably be donating to their baby ward if I ever start making bibs and quilts and stuff for charity. I just wish I would of thought of them years ago whenI actually had baby items sewn to donate.I gave away 8 sacks of baby material cause I was sick of holding onto them in case I ever got around to sewing them one day.

Well then you will most likely have to pay for the shipping. Charities don't pay for shipping. Or you could find another deserving charity like American Veterans. They are always in need of things for kids and will arrange pick up

Yes. A lot of my charity giving w/ill be through local means from now on. I called the recieving home, and they do accept donations of kids care bags, so that's great, since now I won't have to struggle to find cheap ways of doing THAT donation.

Yes. I also want to give blood too. Baskin robins has a sign outside that says give a pint get a pint, but that's not why I want to donate blood. I've wanted to do nate blood for years.

I'll also probably have my doggie donate blood to, to the doggie blood bank at the vets whenever she goes in for a check up.

Years ago I sent donated goods to troops and they were shipped by the local naval base.
I would suggest possibly calling a near by base and see if they have an interest in shipping your packages to troops overseas..or if you have toys...give it to "Toys for Tots".... a really great organization of marine volunteers..

I know Fedex did in the past anyway, give free shipping for some charities. I know 100% that they give good discounts to Charites.  The way it would have to work for the charity is they would have to be the shipper on account, then they'd e-mail you a shipping label to put on your package. You couldn't be the shipping account.  Ebay also essentially will let charities list for free. So, if you found a charity and they registered with them, you could sell stuff to raise money for that charity on there for potentially zero cost.

Almost every company has good discounts for Charities. Its' good PR. The charities have to be official charities registered as such, and they have to do some paper work, that is about it.

Have you asked the charity you are sending to if they know of any way to accomplish this without it costing you an arm and a leg?

Also, while you may have to pay for it, you may also make it or some of it back as a tax deduction, so you should look into that also if you have to pay for shipping (make sure you get receipts from the charity as well as the post office).

You have spoken to the post office, i presume?  Perhaps you could raise the money like through family and friends and work etc?

We do it regularly, but when someone offers icecream, I'll drive a little further.. I'm shallow like that.

I think we have a winner.

if cost is a problem, maybe send part of it to where you want... someone said UPS was good for heavy things.

Well yes, actually I did ask and she did have a way to do it, However I won't be worrying about her group any more since she got in a tiff over a question I asked because asking if any one wanted to help sew blankets for the homeless violated the rules for her 501, and so instead of a warning she banned me.

It's ok she saved me the effort of leaving the group, since every one here has suggested so many wonderful ways to donate locally,I'll never need to ship stuff again  , at least charity stuff lol.
