“The History of Torture” by Brian Innes (my coffee table book), offers many helpful suggestions from a time prior to crucifixion. Long ago a slave's testimony was admissible only if extracted by torture, on the assumption that slaves could not be trusted to reveal the truth voluntarily. Necessity is the mother of invention and this lead to a vast wealth of torture techniques and devices. Our common floggers are ancestors of a vicious whip (cat-o-9 tails) that was splashed with molten lead to create barbed metal lashes and used savagely to whip victims (sometimes to death). Armbinders considered to be a modern erotic device actually come from a lethal design in which the subject is hoisted up until they suffocate. There are a wide variety of other colorful activities and devices, some of which are listed below. Many mediaeval devices (video) have unique charm and can be self applied. There is also a wonderful list of devices here. “Skeffington’s Gyves” were used as a bondage device to transport prisoners between two buildings. It also caused painful cramping - most often in the abdomen and rectum. Like a “shrew’s fiddle” the neck was placed inside the hoop, the hands placed through the smaller loops but, this also accommodated the feet which are locked into the bottom stirrups. This placed the prisoner into a painful fetal position with the knees and hands drawn up to the chin. Any kind of significant movement was painfully impossible and eventually dislocated the spin fracturing the breastbone and ribs. The “Heretic's Fork” can also be fastened solo. My friend at Napa’s Ironworks makes many authentic antique torture devices like: The Shrew’s fiddle that was used to humiliate shrewish and quarrelsome wives, this restraint is a classic. Branks were used in Scotland to punish slander, cursing, or irreligious speech. A “scold's bridle” (also the brank or branks) was for women, resembling an iron muzzle or cage for the head with an iron curb projecting into the mouth and resting precariously atop the tongue. The curb was frequently studded with spikes so as to cruelly torture the tongue if it dared stir: with the tongue lying calmly in place, it inflicted a minimum of pain. Thumbscrews or pilliwinks, are a torture instrument which was used in medieval Europe. The victim's thumbs or fingers were placed in the vise and slowly crushed. Although she could not do this to herself, the thumbscrew were also applied to prisoners' toes and that is something she could manage on her own. In the history of torture there is a myriad of other things to choose from if you do a little research or happen to find yourself at my house and within reach of my coffee table reading materials. There are many interesting things that cannot be reasonable self applied but I list a few below for entertainment value. Caligula of Rome used to enjoy watching prisoners tortured during his meals using a Chinese torture called “The Death of a Thousand Cuts”. Small and repeated stabs were inflicted with a knife so the victims could feel themselves slowly dying. If your online slave has a web cam she can become your meal time entertainment… at least once. Should you care to have more than one session with your slave, you may want to opt for the more civil self inflicted version used by the Japanese called “Execution of 21 Cuts”. This non lethal torture requires your slave to cut herself deliberately slicing varies parts taking care to avoid vital organs. The Spanish Inquisition (58 minute video) provided a host of things to choose from like “The Spanish Chair”(aka Judas Chair) which is like the Interrogation Chair without spikes. But it would be very hard to execute as a self-inflicted torture because someone has to wield the hot poker. On the other hand, the Interrogation Chair only rewuired her to sit in it. Other things from the inquisition could be updated for internet use like . . . The potro or rack which could be modified to work from an electric motor and relay you trigger via the internet. As you increase the tension it induces excruciating pain. The pulleys stretch the ropes until the sufferer's joints are dislocated and eventually separated. Chinese torture devices held their own brand barbaric appeal. Humiliating things like the “cangue” where all your slaves indiscretions are written out on scrolls and fastened to a board with a neck hole. The device is worn in public for 15 days or more and the board prevents your slave from reaching her own mouth. She is dependant on the kindness of family and friends to receive food or water. Other popular tortures would be hard to arrange as they require a horse upon which she is strapped naked while hundreds of volunteers splash her with buckets of boiling water or several Russians to ravage her and throw her into a pit of snakes (adders) which painfully creep into her every orifice. Museum photos ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thanks to everhope for helping dig up some of these links and wade through that torture book.
