that is what Rep. Gohmert proposed that instead of giving the remaining funds to the banks etc, give it to the taxpayers in a stimulus package.

Crap! Sorry, My attempt to quote didn't work so well. Anyway, BB, I was perhaps a little heavy handed and generalizing in my earlier post. I see that you have Bob Barr 's website in your sig line, so we can't be too far apart idealistically.
Actually, I think the "Tax Holiday" is one of the better ideas to come along in quite some time, because of that, it has no chance of getting anywhere! Even if it *did*, by some miracle succeed ... it wouldn't be permanent!

It can.  If enough people tell Congress to make it happen, it will.  Congressmen are creatures of habit--they want to be re-elected.

I'll go do that right now and send a link to friends ... however, I'm not optimistic. If congress can ignore phone calls, emails and faxes at the reported rate of up to 1000-1 against the original bail out bill, it's pretty clear that they don't care what we think, they don't respect us and they aren't afraid of us. And that was right before an election! They feel pretty secure now knowing they have another 2 years for us to forget.

I call dibs on the torch oil consession!

You may be right.  However, if we do nothing, then we have only ourselves to blame if (when?) things get worse.

All it takes for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing.  All it takes for good (and the US economy) to prevail is for Congress to do nothing.
