No problem. Other than talking to my own doctors, it's the first time I've seen it discussed at all. I thought it might be nice to link to it so that a few other people might become aware of it. It's not something like a peanut allergy but it would be nice to avoid the "You're making this shit up" reaction. [:)]

strangely, she lives here in the same state as me, and I have just the opposite. A rather bad alergy to the sun and heat. Even short term sunlight exposure and I start to break out in a very uncomfortable rash. I literally can't sleep if the room is over 65, and at about 80 I begin to get very sick. So yes, I do believe you, and can imagine how much it sucks. HUGS

Ick! I thought I had it bad that I've, for most intents and purposes, had to give up sledding and swimming in non-heated pools. My form is pretty mild so I can, provided I take antihistamines. I can't imagine trying to manage not being able to be in the sunlight!

It's really not that bad anymore. I've gotten used to it, and with these bright blue eyes, I'd much rather not be in bright light anyway. ;) As it kid, yeah, it sucked... a LOT. I thought the doctor was just screwing around with me, but come to find out, a lot of the males on my moms side of the family were that way. Now though, it's not so bad. I prefer the winter anyway, so much prettier and quieter. The actual alergy is to UV-B, so, as you can imagine, I tend to stay wayyyyy the hell away from tanning beds too. ;) The rash part is fairly easy to deal with now, coppertone has a lotion out, their spectra, 75 spf, that protects against uv-a, b, and uh... the other whatever. So that helps, but, it doesn't do much for me when it's 100 degrees outside. About 45 minutes of that, and it's a trip to the E.R. for this katt.

My mother had that but only if it was sunny and cold. She used to put a thin layer of vaseline over exposed skin before going out to prevent the hives. Regular moisturizer soaked in, vaseline stayed on top.

My mother actually had this, as well as allergic to change in temperature from outside to inside--so hot to AC in the summer and heat to cold outside in the winter. Skin got very thin and split if she was not bundled to the max ( though I am sure her case was milder--it was annoying for her)---she also would sneeze her head off and spent much of her time with a sinusitis from the changes. we had to keep a constant temperature---

Yes I have heard of it. I had a friend long ago who swells up like a blowfish on any exposed skin in winter. Really sucked for her living in Northern Quebec when the temps reached -30 or worse and she couldn't go outside for even 4 minutes (or long enough to run to a vehicle).

~Fast Reply~ Glad to see that I'm not the only person! It's amazing though - I think I've encountered one person who had heard of it and recently someone I was chatting with didn't really believe me. They wanted me to know the behind it and I was just kinda "Erm... I get welts... My body doesn't like the cold and has an allergic reaction to it. I dunno... ".

my niece is allergic to the heat, so absolutely i can believe allergic to the cold. i know if the temp in our place gets below 65, my hands and feet are turning blue....and himself running around the house nekkie while i have to be in fleece jammies and a blanket is just annoying the everliving life outta me. kitten

Aquatic, I totally believe you and don't want to make light of your condition. It's just that, after having come back inside only moments ago, from single digit temps and wind chill at I-don't-want-to-know, I am having visions of being diagnosed. One thing I have found, like many women my age, that I am way more prone to overheating. This year, baling hay, I got overheated, felt like my head was on fire and going to explode, got shaky and sick to my stomach. I just cannot take the heat like I used to and that really sucks. My lifestyle has always been outdoors and with our summers, I have to be really careful now.

I wish they would do that. Wouldn't that just be wonderful? sighs I don't think the insurence companies are paying any attenion to this honestly. Not that my form is bad enough to really bother with them over.

The video may not be up anymore. As far as the video went, and as far as my personal information goes, there isn't seizure activity but moderate to severe skin reactions. It my case it seems to affect my breathing as the cold air gets inside my lungs but that may be unrelated or something in my head.

If I get cold or a chill... any time of year, it seems to set off a seizure. The doc doesn't know why, but they are real seizures, so I had to ask. It would be nice to have an answer. I just stay warm. lol Hot flashes help! lol I'm sorry to hear of those that are allergic to the cold. That has to be such a hassle and pain! I think I would be heading to California if I had it.

Cold triggers my asthma. I have Raynaud's, so gloves are in every coat pocket. The hives only come when it is really cold AND I have been exerting myself. I hate winter!!

Oh Raynuads can be a pain! I have it but not too bad and gloves are in all my coats. So why do we live in such cold places???! I did nine years in Michigan... and I mean I did them like in jail! lol I froze my butt all nine years! Kind of wondering what cold hell I am in for in MO now. Why can't daughter's move to nice warm places?

I think I would be heading to California if I had it. That's strange. You may want to talk to your doctor about cold allergies but I would think you'd be having a skin reaction as well. I hope you figure out what is going on!

Well if I were out longer, I might have more happen, but ten mintues max and I must get inside. My ears are the first to go... such a pain inside that I could scream. The skin on my hands will break and bleed with short exposure too and they don't heal sometimes for the whole winter.
