ORIGINAL: kittinSol Does anyone have an easy and delicious recipe for gluwein? I'm dying to make some, now that it's snowing and arctic. Okay, original German Glühwein. However, the amounts are subject to change, according to your personal taste. a bottle of redwine a glass of orange juice a cinnamon stick 3 cloves a piece of star-anise one cardamom seed one allspice seed peel of one orange (organic oranges) peel of 1/2 lemon (organic) brown sugar to taste Put together into a pot, and slowly heat. Hold hot on the stove for about 30 min, do not cook. Filter through a fine mesh sieve, serve. You can also put all the spices and the peel into one of those small filter bags you can buy for the use with loose tea. Close with a piece of string and hang into the pot. No straining needed. Additionally, those homemade spice bags make a nice Christmas gift in a box with a bottle of wine. You need to dry the peel for that, though. You can make a delicious white Glühwein also. Substitute apple juice for the orange juice, use the peel of 1/2 an orange, no lemonpeel. Try honey instead of sugar in the white as well as in the red one. If you want to spike it, rum and amaretto work nicely with the red, applebrandy with the white.
