Perhaps you may be kind enough to post the guts of what you were refering to????

Start watching Penn and Tellers BULL SHIT! It's an interesting series shown exclusivly on Show Time. However the seasons can be bought on CD.

In there segmant on Hypnosis, they point out how no one actually looses control. It points out how it's actually self motivation that gets the job done. The hypnosis part was never needed. It's just a fancy way of having someone tell you what to do for justifying your means.

In the segmant of SEX, they expose a hypnotherapist who convinces her clients that power of the mind will increase your breast size. She has you go into a relaxive state and then imagine and focus on your breast or desired body part to change to your desirable shape. To perform the session, she only ask for a $90 donation and it takes more than one session to have results.

Thanks for the heads up FnF...

Does that mean that it is never of value? Or that it cannot overcome resistance to certain behaviors?

IronBear -> RE: hypnosis (3/6/2006 9:00:45 AM)

There has been several good threads discussing hypnosis in depth which will answer your question... I just dont have the time to post a thesis on the subject and how I can break a human to the level of a whipped animal... It would make you sick and give you nightmares anyway I think. All I will say isd that hypnosis is not a toy and not for the amatures to fiddle with.

talltxsub -> RE: hypnosis (3/6/2006 9:36:32 AM)

Most of us who are interested in experiencing it are amateurs, though......how to begin?

michaelGA -> RE: hypnosis (3/6/2006 9:39:45 AM)

will hypnosis help make me a less negative person?

Do what I did, an accredited course on hypnology or hypnotherapy then work with an experienced supervisor..

It's only of value for someone who belives in it. Let's compare hypnosis to being saved by christianity.

Hypnosis: I've been hypnotised and am free from stress. I know I can now relax and make it through any day.

Being saved: I'm saved for Jesus has taken by burdens away. I can make it through anything now.

So what's the difference? The only thing that changed is the outlook for the person on a surrounding environment that's still the same.

The biggest fraud I find in Hypnosis are memories and past life experiences.

1. Can you really remember when you were born or do you just peace together all the things your parents told you. After all, can you really tell your parents somthing about the doctor or the room that you were never told before? So your mom tells you your birthing room was blue. You now remember being in a pink room. Years later you see pictures of yourself as a baby in a white room. "Mom, I remember my room being blue. Was this after it was painted?" "Son, it was never blue. It was pink because we thought you were going to be a girl. We didn't have the money to change it."

2. People suddenly remembering being abducted by aliens. All it really did was create a false memory making yourself belive your imagination as you tell the story in your relaxed state.

3. Past lives: Once again, you just take yourself where your imagination wants you to go. You may find yourself speaking in some strange accent but when does one actually speak a language they never learned and carry out a real conversation with it?

Hynosis is nothing more than simple mind over matter. When is it necessary for someone else to tell you to relax, close your eyes, breath slow, and revive back with the will to take on the world? Anyone can do that to themself.

IronBear -> RE: hypnosis (3/6/2006 8:28:16 PM)

The beauty here is that we can agree to disagree and still remain civil..... I have to go down that path fangs as I guess a few will too based on hard clinical experience. This does not say I devalue your views and experience we just see things from differing positions and have differing experiences... Salute'

katzschen -> RE: hypnosis (12/28/2006 12:08:49 AM)

Not sure if this has been mentioned, I haven't read the whole post as I am browsing via my cell phone, but we just watched a show called Bullshit done by Penn and Teller about hypnosis. We rented it from Blockbuster. It's an overall great show and we happened to have watched the one on hypnosis tonight. I highly recommend watching it.
Sorry, just had to add my little snippet of input.

katzschen -> RE: hypnosis (12/28/2006 12:14:29 AM)

Ah... I see it now. Well, there's two votes for the show. If not more.
Edited to add: nicely written synopsis, Fangsnfeet. A good credit to the show you are.

Oh, where was I a year ago when this thread was going on? LOL
1st of all, Penn & Teller, though they are EXCELLENT performers and I am a huge fan, are NOT authorities on hypnosis.  You will be able to find opinions on hypnosis that go from one end of the spectrum to the other, just like pretty much any concept or subject.

Now then, as to the recalling of past memories. I also do not believe in "Past Life Regression", but it would take way to long to go into detail as to why.

On the other hand, I am a firm believer that for most people of average intelligence and brain function or better, every moment of your life from the time you were born until this very moment is stored within yrou brain/subconscious mind, and with hypnosis it can be brought out and recalled. Sure, there are times when false memories are created, either accidentally or on purpose by the hypnotist (or whoever).  BUT, every moment of yrou conscious life is stored in yrou brain/subconscious mind, and with the right guidance can be recalled. Of course, years of psychotherapy can also recover past memories that have been long forgotten, but the task can be accomplished MUCH FASTER with hypnosis.

Be skeptical if you would like.  Everyone has the right to their opinion.  But, until you have actualy been involved with hypnotic regression, and recall of repressed memories you will never have a good perspective on the facts of the matter.
