Cagey18 -> "The Day the Earth Stood Still" remake at 27, no *23%* on the TomatoMeter! (12/11/2008 7:51:22 PM)

Knew this would be a POS when I (a) saw that Keanu was in it and (b) saw the explosion-filled trailer.  Yet another case of Hollywood being devoid of original thought.

"23%.  Whoa."

Can't they pass some sort of legislation barring Keanu Reeves from ever making another movie? What are we paying these legislators for, anyway?

Agreed.

The sad part is he gets $10 or 20 million even if the movie loses money.

Desecration.  Sheer desecration.

Looks like it is right up there with the two remakes of "War of the Worlds"

In other words, not worth the price of admission.....waiting for it to hit the non-premium cable movie channels.

Though I *did* record the original "The Day The Earth Stood Still" tonight so I could watch it again...classic!

Keanu was OK in Dangerous Liaisons. He does a good job playing an idiot. I think that's natural talent.

I think he was pretty good in The Gift. And i liked Constantine. Overall he is a shitty actor but every once and a while he does a good movie.

This review says it sucks :

'Earth Stood Still' remake dumb, dull
By KEVIN WILLIAMSON - Sun Media

"Until he plays a house-plant, this may be as close to perfectly cast as Keanu Reeves gets.
As Klaatu, an alien who travels to our neck of the galaxy in the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still, all that's demanded of Reeves is to be as expressive as stucco.

i attend the critics' viewing for this movie ...they should have changed the title - nothing like the original

save your money for The Spirit

It's not his parts that are the problem, it;s his acting. He lacks the ability to be someone other than himself. Which is why his acting sucks most of the time.
