I mentioned this PC being haunted before, now I am sure because even being quite aware of the situation I have no explanation.

Earlier today I pulled my net cable to plug into a friend's laptop, just couldn't find anothe cable. Well this a piece of  junk and it crashed, no HDD recognized, no OS, didn't even power up the mouse (optical, wired). When all was said and done, I had to take the battery out, and then it booted. So here I am. However the PC thinks that it is Jan 01, 2000 now. I have not put the battery back in as of yet but now that it runs I think I will do that while it is running. I don't really like to but oh well.

Neither here nor there, I get online and come to CM and I see the forum, all the messages are from Sept of this year. When I hit refresh I get the new posts, but initially it seems I have to refresh every page.

This makes no sense, I went on got the basic weather on Google, and it, or did it ? It seemed like it was right, but was it ? (you are not alone in the confusion about this statement)

This did not seem to happen on other sites, can a website actually cause IE to use some page out the cache instead of giving up the new page when you click on it ?

The dates on the "new" posts all seemed to be 9/25/08, which seems to just about to coincide with when I got XP I think. Maybe, actually I think it has been longer than that, but I am just not sure, but the point is, what has changed is the date on my PC, why should it affect pages I view now ?

Computers are getting freakier and freakier, and I am glad I no longer work on them. Even without all the stupid things people do to them, they are bad enough. Or is it that I am mac ready now ?

I can afford a mac but really I just don't want to right now. It's not so much the money as learning the thing.

Now if I hit the back button and it gives me stuff from 9/25 again, I think I'll have a look. Maybe I'll take it as a sign and resurrect an old thread. Other than that, the question still remains, why did I get a page like that ?

The Quite Curious -

If that wasn't enough, I closed IE, set the date and now everything seems to be normal.

In one forum I was seeing things from 2/08, now the current threads show up.

Have you checked internet options of explorer to make sure it is checked 'always' for search newer version of stored pages.

Also, go to microsoft for your updates.

It seems the CM gremlins are out making mischief again.

The clock in the computer is very important.  It becomes a reference point.  If you begin with the wrong reference point than other programs that depend upon that will give wrong dates and times.  There is a small battery in the computer that is only for this - that's how important it is.  The fact that your computer reset itself to the wrong date shows that the battery for that is no longer any good.

You entered the twilight zone and were one of the lucky one's to escape it. dodododo  When you do get a new computer... I would suggest burning this one or learning how to get it to make money... you could sell it on ebay as the first possessed computer or something.  Make it look like a holy picture... I hear that works well.

It does seem to like you because it always come back up... it just likes messing with your head.  I would suggest couple's counseling.  ( sorry I couldn't help it...one of my weirder moments!)

Good luck with it!

I dunno, once you no longer fear death .....

The other day it decided that the scroll knob controls the text size in IE.

The abberatation, or should I say appariton, is now gone. I also have reconnected the CD burner, which I think is a VERY good thing. Probably tomorrow I am going to back up my music downstairs, that's a 200GB. I also have some more videos and PDFs to back up.

But I don't trust it to run tomorrow, I don't trust the car to start tomorrow and I am getting to the point wher I will have to actually see the sun out to know that it has risen.

Perhaps haunted is not the word, maybe I should have said posessed.

Maybe you have a poltergeist situation now?

My standard explaination.  Sometimes the majic works, sometimes it doesn't.  when that happens, I turn it off, and go do something else.

Check the CMOS battery lately?  It would explain at least some of your issues.\

Actually sub, taking out the CMOS battery was what made it work again. On the first two attempted boots it said access error - keyboard locked. On the third try it said the same thing but then - keyboard unlocked, press any key to continue.

Then I put the CMOS battery back in while it was running and it has been fine ever since.

I think it has a phychological issue about being toched, all I did was unplug the network cable so I could plug in my buddy's laptop. Hmmmm. maybe it's jealous.

Well I'd say happy to be of help but it appears you've already fixed it.
Oh well, maybe next time.
