Hello A/all.  I've been off this site for a few months.  I just came back on and updated my profile.  I wanted to get started posting again.  On another site I read the phrase anal stretching as a BDSM activity.  I asked about it there, but my original question did not get answered.  What is anal stretching and how is it practiced?  How does it differ from strap on?

The process of anal stretching involves slow and increasingly larger play over an extended period of time. Like all good things, it takes time! Done carefully, anal stretching can safely (and without negative side effects) result in rectal circumferences of 15" and more. Done slowly, the process should be pleasurable (and may be a little painful as well). If there is bleeding or excessive pain, you're stretching too fast. Always be sure to use lots of lube. After stretching, it takes three to six hours for the anus to return to normal (it will have large swollen "lips" until then). Okay, how does anal stretching differ from strap on play, or are you saying anal stretching simply occurs as a result of strap on play?  In other words, it is not a separate BDSM activity.  That's what had me confused.

Butt plugs , strapons and fisting are all a form of anal stretching.

I think that anal stretching, as utopicus said, is a purposeful activity over time that would allow someone to be able to take large objects into the anus. So it's not just play but a program of training that will take time. You should be careful to to keep your muscles strong as well as get them used to large objects -- you strengthen them with exercises you can ask a doctor about in fact.
