I saw this tip on a house hold tips sight and sometimes we all know that some tips can be impractical or unsafe, so how safe would spraying perfume on a lightbulb before turning on be

Great Smells Without The Candles
Spray a bit of perfume on the lightbulb in any room to create a lovely light scent in the room when the light is turned on. This is an great and easy way to leave a subtle scent in your favorite room without all the fuss

I have done this without any problems. The scent though is rather subtle and is not very long lasting. The only issue I had with it is that it does tend to make a residue on the bulb which if it gets too thick can smoke a bit and is very hard to remove after it has baked on. What I found that works better is those clay like rings that sit on top of the light bulb. You add a few drops of scented oil and it lasts quite a long time but is not overpowering.

Ahh yes I have seen those too.

I like a nice subtle fragrance in the home, but have become someone that is not a huge proponent of burning candles or incense now.

A few years ago, at a friend's home, we saw a crystal candle holder explode [:o] into the air, causing the candle flame to fully ignite the carpet (fortunately with others in the room, as the home owner was in-scene, upstairs). I've never left a candle in a room (alone) since then. Incense, while initially nice, tends to give me a sore throat or causes me to sneeze. [:'(]

I received a candle warmer last week. I thought...oh boy, another useless gift, to re-gift. [:D]

Anyway, I tried it out, and I absolutely love it. A fragrant candle is placed on the warmer, and the candle is melted slowly, with the fragrance emitted throughout the room. No flame, and the warmer is on a outlet (although still should not be left unattended), it's much safer. No nasty, smokey, wick smell when you have to blow out the candle either.

It's an alternative.

K

PS Okay...now I'll have to get a candle in my favorite perfume. I like that idea. Thanks.

I think that it would be fairly safe... However do not spray anything on a bulb that's already been on for a while. A bulb in my bathroom popped while I was taking a shower - and I'm fairly certain it was because of the steam leaving moisture on the very hot bulb.

Tried that with lysol once. The bulb imploded.

Realtors use a drop of vanilla on a light bulb to make it smell like fresh baked cookies. :)

I have for years used oil based scents. A drop on lightblub and then turn it on.
Spray perfume although would work safely it would evaporate really quickly.

i agree that a scented lightbulb can help set the mood, but i'd like to insert one note of caution here..make sure anyone around isn't allergic to the scent. While subtle and not long lasting to most, it can be bad for someone who suddenly starts sneezing, coughing, etc.

Hope you have fun with it. :)

cheers
