"Nevertheless, despite the remarkable life that Caroline Kennedy has lived...despite her Harvard undergraduate degree and Columbia Law School degree...despite her being an attorney, an editor, and a published author...despite that our next president trusted her to co-lead his search for a vice president...despite coming from one of the greatest families ever to serve in the United States Congress... we have to sit and listen to members of this Beltway fraternity (and sorority) bluster that she might not be qualified to become 1 of 100 in the Senate. Seriously?"

BS. The reply rather proves we have a good-looking woman grown up in a bubble, no idea how real World looks like she will sopposedly serve in near future.

Well, let's see:

- Harvard undergraduate degree
- Columbia Law School degree
- attorney
- editor
- published author
- our next president trusted her to co-lead his search for a vice president

Yes, clearly she's never worked a day in her life or had to deal with any adversity whatsoever.  Just stayed at home in her little bubble sitting on the sofa reading romance novels. Completely unqualified.

Why not Ms Kennedy, so she has no experience...but hey..that does not matter in the 21st Century.  And she is a Kennedy...camelot blah blah bla. Didn't we just elect a guy to the presidency that noone really knows...and who has zero experience running anything but a political campaign?
We are in the era of "change"!  And that's enough for 53% of the voting public.  She probably will do a better job and help her uncle with healthcare.

DesFIP -> RE: Caroline Kennedy to seek New York Senate Seat. (12/15/2008 9:28:19 PM)

She's been very involved with the New York City school systems. She's been a major fundraiser for them, raising over $65,000,000. This school system teaches children who speak over 90 different languages. If you think that being involved in running one of the nation's largest school systems is equal to vacationing, I think you need your head examined.

Beyond that, this seat was held by Robert Kennedy who went from being a lawyer to Attorney General of the United States. Its previous occupant was a lawyer who went from first lady to it.

Compared to Republican Peter King from Long Island, who is desperate to get to the Senate despite being voted down time after time in primaries, Caroline Kennedy is a great choice. Personally I also like Andrew Cuomo, son of a former governor who went from being a lawyer to a major federal position and is the present state AG.

LOL, Des, "desperate?"
*She's* the one who went to Gov. Patterson's office asking for the job!
Now if you or one of your friends wanted that senate seat do you think they'd even let you in the door in Albany?
We're talking *extreme wealth* and *extreme priviledge* here as well as the Kennedy sense of "entitlement!"
Do you really think that having "celebrity senators" is a good idea?
I would think that after Hillary Clinton someone who is "low key" would be more preferable.
What if one of the Getty kids or Rockefellers or, Donald Trump's kid went barging into Gov. Patterson's office demanding that senate seat?
Gov. Patterson instead of appointing someone to the senate for two years should announce a special election and let The People of New York State pick a senator.
*If the last eight years has taught us anything it's that we shouldn't be letting people of wealth and priviledge anywhere near Washington!*
P.E. Obama has promised us "Change."
Do you really think putting another Kennedy into political office will bring about any type of "change?"
She'd be Ted's "mini-me!"
He'd eat a banana, she'd eat a banana.
He'd vote to let illegal aliens stay in the U.S., she'd vote for it.
The Kennedys think that "they" know better than everyone else!
If Caroline Kennedy were to get that senate seat she wouldn't be representing you.

SilverMark -> RE: Caroline Kennedy to seek New York Senate Seat. (12/16/2008 2:37:20 AM)

Well, I was raised in the state that elected Dan Quayle to the senate....Caroline Kennedy is by far a better choice than he was and just as qualified, if not more.
If Gopher form the Loveboat can be in the House why not another Kennedy in the Senate? It is the world's most exclusive Millionaires club....There just aren't many Dick Lugars....and if they aren't rich when they get there, they will be by the time they leave!

DesFIP -> RE: Caroline Kennedy to seek New York Senate Seat. (12/16/2008 5:49:37 AM)

Caroline's turned down post after post for years simply because she didn't want her children growing up in the same media bubble she did. She has worked behind the scenes to avoid media exposure which is quite different than not working at all.

And I would much rather have someone in office who doesn't need to sell him or herself and the job to get money than the other way around. Nelson Rockefeller was a man of extreme wealth and privelege, with no knowledge of life on the streets, and there was never one hint of scandal about him because he didn't view the post of governor as a gravy train.

I know a lot of venal poor people who wouldn't hesitate to sell their own mothers. I know some rich people who are the same. I also know poor people with moral and ethical values, and rich people who have values as well. The fact, Popeye, that you cannot conceive of anyone with money, with a financial safety net, as being a decent person just brings to light your prejudices. Remember, a closed mind is a wonderful thing to lose.

Pretty much.  Although she probably can serve as Ted's designated driver.

All that venom, from the very people who supported the most incapable vacuous bimbo for the job of VP just over a month ago [sm=marionette.gif][sm=biggrin.gif] .

LaTigresse -> RE: Caroline Kennedy to seek New York Senate Seat. (12/16/2008 7:28:01 AM)

Rather humorous isn't it?

I am sure she is less qualified than Arnold was to be governor, or Ronald Regan.......? Then there is that fright Fred Thompson. Or the wrestler that was governor of Minnesota.....

I just have to wonder where people are supposed to get their experience. Seems that the senate isn't a bad start.

Musicmystery -> RE: Caroline Kennedy to seek New York Senate Seat. (12/16/2008 7:46:57 AM)

~FR~

While I also look to qualifications, I'm struck by the dichotomy invoked by discussions of who should lead.

One the one hand, proven experience--though that "experience" is often parsed beyond credulity.

But then, we want not old school insiders, but fresh voices, people of the people.

Both reasonable arguments, but both get stretched in self-serving ways to accommodate the speaker at the moment.

That's really the difficulty. And while we want to be empathetically represented, we also want someone who can get things done. That means experience, money, connections. But then those people will represent the special interests....but then then other candidates are unelectable....but then.........

Everyone--parties and voters---is trying to game the system (understandably). We've left fighting for principles far behind. So this is what we get.

Caroline has a plethora of handicaps that ensure she will not endear herself in the eyes and hearts of the radical right: she is the daughter of John Kennedy; she is highly educated; she is an intellectual; she has political ambitions; she is from the East Coast; she is a woman.

We need more women like her in the senate :-) .

LaTigresse -> RE: Caroline Kennedy to seek New York Senate Seat. (12/16/2008 9:02:56 AM)

Oui

SilverMark -> RE: Caroline Kennedy to seek New York Senate Seat. (12/16/2008 11:45:15 AM)

She could have just moved to Illinois and bought a seat!

Is she running for Senate where Kittin lives?

Oh boy, here we go again!   http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/ny_senate_seat
*Beautiful People Alert!*
Yahoo News said last week that her "experience" was working part-time at a non-paid position for a charity. Which means she has even less experience than Sara Palin who was and is a sitting Governor!
Boy, those Kennedys, always wanting to "help out" their country!
Only never at a position at the bottom, always at the top!
The "Beautiful People" aren't like you and me.
They never have to struggle ~ shudder~ in life!
And we'll be told I'm sure what a "woman of the people" she is!
I think I was in the Navy while she was sailing around on Aristotle Onasis' yacht in the Greek Islands where I was with the Sixth Fleet, perhaps we passed each other like ships in the night!
So, she was a "Sailor", right?
I don't put any stock in that noise about having "experience", *anyone* in the Great State of New York is "qualified" to be a congressman, senator or president.
I don't know why Caroline thinks she can skip to the head of the line.
Hey, here's an idea for her campaign, she could distribute pictures of herself in jodphur riding boots and an English riding suit next to her horse!
That'll be a hit in Brooklyn and Buffalo, right?
Boy, the wealthy, priviledged "Beautiful People" are just waiting in the wings to help us all out aren't they?

There is no way in hell she should get any seat in any govt. without running for it like everybody else. Well, ok, most everybody else.

Why ? Because she is the closest person to being just another Jackie Kennedy, (her late mother) a figurehead, almost all of what she and her mother did was nothing anymore than ceremonial.

She has remained out of the public and has shown absolutely no interest in the 'little people,' what I call for them...the great unwashed.

Here late brother would have been a much better choice. Hell, Bill Clinton would obviously be a better dem to put in there than her. She is uniquely undeserving of this appointment.

awmslave -> RE: Caroline Kennedy to seek New York Senate Seat. (12/16/2008 1:08:14 PM)

Is it too early for Chelsea Clinton to occupy senat seat she deserves?

kittinSol -> RE: Caroline Kennedy to seek New York Senate Seat. (12/16/2008 1:11:19 PM)

There's an outgoing case of primogeniture that's a lot more troubling [8|] . Thankfully... he's out.

Musicmystery -> RE: Caroline Kennedy to seek New York Senate Seat. (12/16/2008 2:11:52 PM)

Not yet.

And he isn't sitting on his hands.
