i was just curious as to what everyone thought about Alan Keyes running in the Illinois Senate Race. my first thought is that the state of Illinois is crazy to allow someone to enter the race without being an actual resident. i believe i heard that the candidate must only move to the state prior to the election.

Secondly, i think race of course is an issue here with two black candidates opposing each other.

Ah, but Alan Keyes can't be a real Black because he is a Republican. Everyone knows that real Blacks are always Democrats. [;)]

I am curious why you would think that race is an issue when two blacks are running against each other. It isn't the first time this has happened. I thought the point was to elect the best man for the job. In this case there are two black men as choices. I say " so what "? What does color have to do with it?

Estring,
i think race is an issue because the republican party in illinois wanted a black candidate to run against Obama.

By the way, i know a few black republicans too lol.

Alan Keyes is further right of the right wing. i've heard him speak on a few issues, and i honestly don't think he's got a chance in hell of winning. Many republicans here are distancing themselves b/c he's not "moderate enough."

Personally, he gives me the willies- for reasons i won't get into b/c i don't feel like debating politics with my crush in Cali [:)]

If you will recall, Hilliary ran in New York even though she had claimed Arkansas as her state. She moved to New York just to run for the Senate. Most people (at least the ones I know) couldn't believe a state would elect an "outsider" to represent them. But maybe that's a southern perspective since "You're not from around here, are you?" is applied to anyone who wasn't born here to native born southerners.

Mr. Keyes even commented on the similiarities between his run and Hilliary's. (and how he had disapproved of hers)

Isn't Illinois where Jack Ryan was ousted from the race by the Chicago paper getting his divorce proceedings opened by court order? Soon, only nuns will be able to run for office.

There was a cartoon in the Springfield paper today depicting Keyes asking to borrow Hillary's carpet bag. [;)]

And what nobody ever mentions is that Ryan was running a TERRIBLE campaign before the sex club allegations broke!

Jeri Ryan is still my first choice. "7 of congress shall be assimilated" had a catsuit that got my vote!

I believe that the law states that you have to be a resident in the state for at least 6 months prior to taking office. Mrs. Clinton fell into the same category when she went for N.Y. senate seat.
