I like Christmas because it reminds me of the blessings I receive every day. It focuses my attention on the fact that someone, a very long time ago, made the ultimite sacrifice for me and others.

I also like the fact that Christmas is a time for family and friends and good cheer in a world that is sometimes way too crazy.

I'm sorry you can't see past your personal things to reach out and grasp the better parts of this season. You are truly missing a wonderful thing.

This is what I enjoy as well.

Although I celebrate Yule a few days earlier than Christmas, I do appreciate the season because... and it may not seem like much... but people SMILE at each other. In the stores, in the streets, the malls... people who would otherwise normally keep to themselves, will meet each other's eyes. Smile. Share comments over the vegetable display. I like when a grocery checker who is looking really stressed out, gets a customer who takes the time to smile at her and wish her happy holidays, and for that one moment, you can see her stress dissipate, and a spark comes to her eyes as she responds, and even when that customer is gone, she turns to the next with more heart.

And I like carols (lots of which are as pagan as Yule), and I like the lights, and the trees (also pagan) and making peanutbutter-birdseed toast cut into Christmas shapes and hung outdoors for the birds, and the mistletoe and holly (pagan again), and the presents and wassailing (pagan <sigh>). More than getting presents, I like giving them... choosing things I hope will please the recipient... and I love doing beautiful giftwrapping... it's almost to fetish proportions <laugh> My favorite Christmas music? You're not going to believe this, pagan that I am, but it's Handel's Messiah. I start listening to it around July <laugh>, keep a copy in my car and just belt it out :) Alto, of course!

i don't...sorry call me a scrooge if you want, but to me it is an overly commercialised pile of hooey. Even the "time for friends and family" bothers me, since I live alone, and getting to "visit" my kids is just very painful. So all in all, I also am glad that it is over for another year.

I couldn't agree more. Despite all the stresses (largely self-imposed) of the season, most people genuinely harbor more good feeling toward their fellows at this time of year.

I've always loved the lights and decorations, but putting them away is a big pain.

Tasha

btw...I now have Messiah stuck in my head...of course there are worse tunes. [:D]
