Staying home, I figure if someone wants to see us, they know where we live.

I don't know the distance in miles and I'm too lazy to look it up, but I'm flying from Austin to Marco Island for my first in 23 years family Christmas. I don't know any of the traditions yet. I used to host a huge gathering at my house for any friends that wanted a place to be. Complete with full decorations and 2 turkeys with all the trimmings.

Its nice that I don't have to clean or buy masses of food this year but it feels kind of weird.

We'll be hosting the morning festivities, and driving a whole 20 miles for Christmas dinner that afternoon.  At least one person will be driving further than that to get here.

we are lucky that all our family/friends live within a 50 mile drive.

I think stella wins for the longest distance category on this one!

6 hour trip in my car to NE Ohio to spend the week with my sons.  Son #1 will give me his bedroom and he'll crash in his living room.  Gas is cheap, I'm loving it.

I don't travel at all for the holidays, the only people I feel worth seeing are  my parents and my Daddy. and Daddy and I live together  with my parents.. So there for no need for transportation or travel.

And we don't have people coming to us, since my mom's family is all local and never come over and never invite us over to see them. Which is no skin off my nose, I prefere not interacting with any of them.

Greetings all,

What kind of transportation are you taking and how far are you traveling for the hollydays?  Do you make the rounds or have the family and friends come to you?  Do you have space for everybody or stash the over-flow in hotels and motels?  And do you have back-up plans in case of nasty weather or airline failures?

I am flying home for a quick visit (2 days- I must be crazy).... the flights are abut 3 and a half - 4 hours, depending on which direction you are flying in.  I can't wait.

i'm lucky because most of my family lives near each other however it doesn't mean i'll be making rounds to see them all. usually i travel between my dad's and mom's place during the holidays - pre-Christmas dinner at my mom's and Christmas or after-Christmas dinner at my dad's.

with the way Chicago's weather is going - public transportation is best.
