Greetings all,

What kind of transportation are you taking and how far are you traveling for the hollydays?  Do you make the rounds or have the family and friends come to you?  Do you have space for everybody or stash the over-flow in hotels and motels?  And do you have back-up plans in case of nasty weather or airline failures?

Are we looking for the shortest or longest distance?

About 50 feet from my bedroom to the living room using my own two feet. No family to visit..maybe a friend or two who visit but otherwise it's just me and the not so wee anymore one.

I live about 150 miles away from where I grew up, and drive to my parents' for major holidays, excepting easter and 4th of July. In the event of worse than usual michigan snow, I will drive slower. If it happens that I have an unfortunate meeting with a tree off the highway in Lansing again, I will call and have my family pick me and the dog up. Not making it - there or back - is not an option. My boyfriend/partner/whatever keeps threatening to come with me this year, but I've put the kibosh on that.

Since I'll be working, I'll be traveling about 24 miles round trip in my poor little car (with the transmission issues, we have to stay on surface streets..*bleah*)

Family has always come to us.  I've always had the biggest house.  So, it became the family house.  Even here the cousins come to us.
We will be taking a short business/pleasure/family trip and will be driving for it.  That's after Christmas though.

How many human puppies does it take to pull GT through the streets to work?

We are staying home for Christmas because we just returned from a 3 week trip to visit relatives all over the country.  We drove about 7500 miles.  One of our daughters will join us Christmas eve and morning, the other one we visited on Thanksgiving.

I think it's about 15 feet from my bedroom to the living room.  No family that I'm on speaking terms with other than dad, and since he lives here it's not like I've got to make the drive across town to see him on the holiday this year like I did last year.  I don't plan on leaving the house to go do any visiting, but I know of a couple of friends of mine who's families live outta state that will likely come by since they tend to make the rounds each year.

No decorations, no tree, no special dinner planned, and despite dad's protests I have absolutely No intention of driving HIM across town to sit through a snoozably boring church service on Christmas Eve - especially when I'm not even a Christian and his church has offered nada in the way of even Emotional support for the past 2 years while he was in the nursing home.   He has friends from his church who are more than willing to come pick him up and take him, then bring him home - including his chair and portable oxy unit - so no, good daughter type thing or not, I'm not inflicting such on myself to make him happy!  They wouldn't do that for him while he was in the nursing home, but now that he's living at home again and on hospice, they're suddenly willing to do so.

We're snowbirds so we live about 1500 miles from the nearest relatives.   Since we live in a motor home in an RV park all winter, we'll walk about 1/2 a block down the road to spend the day with good friends.  Their gift to the group is steak grilled on the BBQ every Christmas.  (Thanksgiving is held at my place)   We're all an extended family of good friends.

Family came/is coming to me this year for the first time ever! My sister flew in today, and parents fly in next week. We opted out of the hotel to save on driving time, etc (the hotel we use is downtown. I am no longer downtown haha). Soo I went and bought two of those inflatable bed things that come with the frame and the memory foam top, and they're more comfortable than my bed so I'm kind of bitter about it right now.

I'm going...*walks there and back* about 20 feet a few times. My couch to bed, to bathroom, to kitchen for coffee and my christmas steak and potato.

I am driving my car and it's about 50 miles. I hope the roads will be clear.

We are getting together at my son's house this year instead of the farm. It's easier for my kids if we go there, rather than they trying to drive down here on winter roads, load up 3 small people and their small people crap, try to get in and back out of our lane, me worrying about them traveling, etc.

All I will have to do is cook some food, load the vehicle with gifts and food and head north. It is about 75 miles from the farm to my son's house. So 150 round trip. No big deal at all. What I drive depends on the road conditions. If it is slippery and the snow doesn't get too deep, I prefer the Prism because of the way it handles. If the snow gets deeper than that car can plow through, I will take the, deer ravaged, 4 wheel drive, pickup.

I'm driving about 130 miles each way, and will probably stay in a motel (the parents are up and down all night, so sleeping in the living room is tough.)  I can stay for free with points from Hilton affiliated hotels.  We'll have a party with all my cousins, too.
