We may go again this coming year, it's like a pilgrimage, you have to return occasionally. Been there several times and as long as you can see past the commercialism, it's definately a unique experience. No weapons necessary, my experience has always been that it's amazing that so many people can actually get along that well together. As for your choice of ride, you should be fine. Riceriders tend to take more of a risk than anyone, but I think that has tamed down some any more (I have seen rice bikes strung up and burned). Campground is a personal choice, just depends on how hard you want to party. Everyone should stay once at "Buffalo Chips", but it's more for the rowdy group and all night partiers. Glencoe is a bit more mellow and the facilities are decent for the size of the place, I think total they can handle around 100,000 people alone. Southside campground right on the edge of town is a very mellow campground, but it's a long haul through traffic to get to the strip. Other than that, there are a zillion places to camp, you just have to pick one really, they all have pros/cons. Plan to at least go and see some of the competition while you are there to get the grass roots of the entire rally (many people miss this part). There are flat track races daily, hill climbs, drag races and bike shows out the wazoo. As for touring, be sure to see Mt. Rushmore of course and then, to put that into perspective, take the ride out to see the Crazy Horse monument that is in progress, you will understand what awe inspiring means then. When it's hotter than blue blazes outside we have an interesting way to cool off rather than just sippin beer in one of the many bars, try going through some of the local cave tours in the area around Rapid City, at 55 degrees they are interesting and refreshing entertainment and an escape from the crowds. Have fun!
