That better be a cigarette, Mr. President-Elect...

     A collection of old photos of Barack Obama, locked away during the campaign by the photographer, has been released.

     And yes, other pictures clearly show it as a completely innocent looking cigarette, but I can just imagine the emails that would have said otherwise.

Why are you trying to create scandal where none exists? He's already admitted smoking weed in college.

(of course, clueless RWers can still work themselves into a froth if they're as ignorant as in the past...)

I hear he still smokes. If he does I wish he would be upfront about it. I think it would be cool to have a President puffing away on a cig during the State of the Union Address - and drinking rum and colas too. It's a stressful job, gotta let the guy have a few vices.

What scandal, Cagey? They are old pictures of the man who is about to become President of the United States. They are kind of cool, and the one I directly linked to had a caption that made me laugh.

Word is that he now chews a lot of nicotine gum (switched at the start of his campaign). He might still sneak a smoke once in a while, but not indoors around his daughters, and he won't be smoking inside the White House.

As for seeing him publicly smoking...not bloody likely.

The photographer was smart to lock the negatives away during the election. It is fascinating to see someone in earlier photographs of their life, before they became so famous. Looks like the shoot was relaxed and fun and that Obama was trying to look cool and hip.

No doubt! The first president we've had that I can say I find attractive. And I'm normally not terribly into people of colour. Well... asians... but generally I just don't find them physically attractive. Of course there are exceptions to every rule, and he's certainly one of them. :)
