Hello all,

Looking for input to assist a friend who's wanting to start testing herself in bdsm play as a sub. Care to share some of your favorite first experiences or toys, techniques, that were great for you from the start?

All comments appreciated!

Taz

Best advice has already been given by LA. Start slow, find what you like, what you don't like...why you like something, why you don't...etc

there are no guarantees, no short cuts, no 'tests' that can be done lol

Everything comes down to what you want, and what you like. Go slow, experience everything, meet lots of people, go to clubs, munches, talk, and read everything you can.

My first experience involved cuffs... not padded ones, but actual metal...yow!
My second experience involved lovely smooth nylon ropes and (a rather pathetic example of) a spanking. Tell your friend to read and talk and decide what intrigues her the most. Going slowly is a good idea for her safety, not just her enjoyment.
i wish her luck

A sub starter kit?
Hmmmm, this could be fun.....let's see.

First and foremost, a box of tissues to wipe the tears of frustration, pain, and joy, that she will most likely experience, from her eyes.

A reach around paddle, so she can practice on her/him self, when not in the company of a Dominant.

a cell phone with the speed dial set to 911 and voice activated.....just in case?

an itsy bitsy butt plug, to grow accustomed to, coz you know a bigger one will follow.

A copy of John Warren's "the loving Dom", to give to your Dom, with the hope that he can read and will read it?

Band aides, ointment, bodylotion, deoderant, toothbrush, and a clean pair of panties.

A string, to tie around your finger to remind you, that you are a newbie and not to go too far, too fast. The Fastlane could be hazerdous to your health

Peace, Kevin

some of the tools that have helped me so far have been patience, centering and study. I would suggest she read anything and everything she can get her hands on.

Knowing what I know now, there are definately things I would have had in my initial toy bag.
1) A couple of tubes of lube. We all know what a pain in the ### new Doms can be (hehehe)

2) I giant size bottle of body lotion. Got to start training these Doms about the fun of aftercare)

3) Your own Dils and vibes collection. With a new partner, you have no idea the care and cleaning of his toys. Heaven knows, maybe his toys double as chew toys for his dog!

As far as things to do to prepare. I don't think you can do anything physically. There are so many variants and so much exploration. You have to find what right for you. Face it, the exploring part is a trip in itself!!! However, you should discuss your likes, dislikes and the need for your Dom to GO SLOW.

Awww shucks, I was just looking through my starter kit and trying to help.
Still, thank you for the compliment.
I did notice, however, in my old bag, I do also have a torch. ....Damn, what the hell was I thinking, way back when?

Peace, Kevin

... a torch? I'm scared to ask.... I'm hoping it was of the battery-operated variety, rather than the rags-dipped-in-pitch-and-set-ablaze-on-a-stick variety.

Ooooh..ooooh...oooooh,,,yes, candles and lighter...wax play!

Always a good place for beginner's to start.

Just make sure there is a smoke detector in the building!

I know when I first came to find the whole BDSM thing, my partner started with a little whip.. And a (ball) gag (which I never grew to love), nipple clamps - but the really ouchy kind which I disliked - now have a tweezer type with a slip ring. And a clit stimulator and butt plug.

Books are great. I've read some that I wish that I'd read off the bat instead of several years into it...

My dream starter kit would come it a little wooden chest with the words "my first scene" scribbled on it in pink cutesy letters. It would include a blindfold, flavored lube (cherry of course), a paddle, duct tape, concealer (for any unsightly bruising), and a big hazard sign that read "STUDENT SUB"

Being a new sub myself, i will tell you that the best things from my "starter kit" are plenty of books..ie.. The Loving Dominant, SM101, Screw the Roses Give me the Thorns, and The Story of O. Also, a good journal, this is great to look back and see your true feelings on things. i also agree on your own toys.

my Master is very insistant on me reading and talking to him about my feelings as we travel this road. It is very important to understand where you are coming from before you get somewhere you don't want to go!

I did heaps of reading too, mostly sites from the internet.

Patience is a great thing to have at the start - it all sounds so exciting and you want to get right in and experience everything at once, but I am glad Master has taken things slow with me. I still have lots of things to look forward to!

My sub had personal wipes to clean up bodily fluids, soft cuffs (not metal), and blindfold.
