So let's carry on with it and spit in the face of progress.

You're modern medicine kept me alive, a hundred years ago I would have died.
And now I'm a live and while that's good... I am disposable.
Your modern medicine and government lie, they are not for everyone.
They tell you pretty lies so sweet that speak of how your troubles they meet.
And yet they lie, so many do know, but in this new economy, many more will know.
Let us pray to the powers that be, that many of you will not be like many of us.
For had our fate or fortune been a bit different, a job or a spouse or family and health.
We might be you and you might be... us.

Hardly new.  Been around since the beginning of the human race.

Of course you are right.  this is close to the oldest story in the world.  Gives me a feeling of hopelessness sometimes to think about it, but I can do what I can do.  Support leaders whose actions show is important to care for those who can't care for themselves and give to charitable organizations who serve those at the bottom of society's ladder.  They all can't be saved, but I can help the person in need who is right in front of me.

kicking someone out because they cannot pay is not a bad thing.

however, it would be wise of these hospitals to drop them off in front of a shelter of some sort (though they have no obligation to give them anything) in order to avoid bad press.

A sophistic question deserves a sophistic answer.

These people that acted in such a disgraceful way best hope they are never in a situation where they depend on another's charity themselves, that  goes for anyone else, especially in these times of financial hardship be careful, for it is often that what goes around, comes around, not one of us is able to tell the future. Treat others how you would like to be treated yourself,(painsluts need not reply)

What strikes me is that even though this story is deemed 'old' because it didn't happen yesterday, it's probably not the only time something like that's occurred.

This kind of shit wouldn't even happen in some of the 'third world countries' I've visited where even though people are as poor as they come... they look after each other. So I ask: who's the third world again?

It's a sad indictment on our society, the wealthiest on the planet, that this kind of thing should happen at all. Tax revenue should be used to ensure sick people don't get dumped on to the streets like that; it wouldn't even cost that much. But we choose to spend those huge sums of money on foreign wars, corruption, and elaborate weaponry...

KittinSol, the perception that the U.S. is the "wealthiest" country is "old!"
We're not.
"Kaleeforneea" is broke because they spend tens of billions of dollars on illegal aliens.
It comes down to choices, who are we going to take care of, our own people or people who sneak into our country to steal from us.
"Ahr-nold" is acting as if he's going to be asking the feds for money to bailout Calif.
I'd be in favor of that so long as the state ends any and all benefits for illegal aliens.
If you "give" things to illegal aliens guess what you get? *More* illegal aliens!
As this article demonstrates, we're not doing a very good job taking care of our own are we?

kittinSol -> RE: Hollywood hospital dumps paraplegic on the street. (12/21/2008 11:20:29 AM)

Yes yes, popeye. The reason the richest country in the world is going to the dogs is because of illegal aliens, Harvard educated lawyers, and the Kennedies.

Kittin, I didn't say that did I?
I said the reason that *California* is going broke is because of illegal aliens.
I don't think it would be right to bail them out if they don't pledge to end that stuff.

Kittin, what a coincidence!
Here's an article that just popped up on YahooNews!

Hospitals are VERY concerned about community relations and bad press.  If a person no longer needs to be hospitalized then the hospital is not obligated to keep him, but dumping a parapalegic on the street is well beyond the pale, at least for most of us, our friend Marie Antoinette notwithstanding.

BTW, love your new pic.

In the Unied Snakes, yes. Money is everything here. If you don't have money you have sinned in the eyes of Gowadduh and are going straight to hell. Or Mississippi.

When one suffers from a mental illness, their self-esteem is torn up.  No one wants to hire you, you can't get SSI because there is a 95% denial rate.  The local MHMR is willing to treat you and ensure that you get meds on a PAP program, but these patients can be underemployed from former clerical troubleshooter to a pizza maker barely making minimum wages.

How do I know this?  I am in the same position, but my lot will be improving.

Sir has offered a place to live and some wages.  Alexis and I will be his domestics from now on.  Luckily he is a owner contractor, so when I am not working on the houses (2 of them), I will be organizing his paperwork and keeping my skills up to date, which does entitled raise up my self esteem.  Sir and Mistress knows how we are and are willing to accept us.

Meanwhile, until that day arrives, my mother sends us money to feed ourselves since the Food Stamps people tend to lose our paperwork.  We are living with Alexis's mother, who does not understand our lifestyle so we keep it under wraps.  I am awaiting final review for my SSI and if I can prove that no one wants a mentally ill patient (I am just building my self esteem up now, the meds are working fine...*YEAH*), then I will help repay my mother of all of the bills that she has settled for me.

As part of the mental illness, I have hypersexuality.  I choose to explore BDSM, with a cross between SSC and RACK just to see what my limitations are.  I am also a strong advocate for safe sex (My freshman paper was on Aids and how it changed the Sexual Revolution).

I am literally on the steps of homelessness, but soon, we will be out of this restrictive place and be living the way that Sir and Mistress desires us to live.  Now the tears are about to flow...[:(]

So I know what Lockit is talking about.  I am there.  But soon, we will be free!

Shahar

This was always their attitude. But if you have money they will hide the attitude from you. Might even give you a smile. But it won't change the opinion they have of you.

Trust me we are one of the poorest. This story should be evidence enough.

if he can afford the cake, then he should. the physicians of a hospital should not, however, be brought the guillotine for not serving any individual who waltzes (or rolls) up to their office and demands it. sorry, but that's not just.

Maybe not the guillotine, but they are accountable.

This is not waltzing up to the drive-thru and ordering a Big Mac.

There's this little thing about an oath they take and it doesn't include anything about checking a patient's credit rating before treating him.
