Hi Donna,

You were the very first frindly email I received on Collarme, and the relationship that blossomed and grew here an inspiration to me.  It is very sad to hear he has been so ill, and to know how terrifying the previous days have been for you, but wonderful to hear the good news and know that you will have your guy back with you soon.  HUGS and warm wishes and softly expelled sighs of relief for you both.

Charlotte

another day and another day better.  The hospital has uncovered a few other issues that were underlying, like high cholesterol and a Vit D deficiency.  So the docs are taking care of those things now too.  e01n's on the med surg floor now and when I went up to see him today he was only on a nasal cannula for 02 which is great.  I finally got to kiss his lips again for the first time since Sunday.  Made my heart melt all over.  This evening he called me and told me the doctor hopes to discharge him Saturday.  This means he's getting much better much faster than anticipated at first since the same doctor told me he thought 5 more days, yesterday.

Again, I can't thank everyone enough for the thoughts and well wishes.  I know in my heart your thoughts and prayers made the difference.  You gave him strength and I love the whole of you for it.

hum.

Ok, so Sunday e01n's CXR was worse than Saturday and he's in more pain.  Today the Pulmonologist did a thoracentisis (stabbed him in the lung with a needle to draw off fluid) because of the worsening CXR.  What he told me was this:  "When [e01n] came in, he was dying.  Today he's not dying, but he's not getting any better.  I need to know why he's not getting better."  After another CT and analysis of the fluid he pulled off they will decide to do one of three things:  another thoracentisis would be the least of the three evils.  This would be because they need to just pull more excess fluid off.  Next option would be a chest tube to create a solid draining system to relieve a lot of fluid and lastly would be a thorachotamy which is a procedure to go in and sluck out many pockets of various fluid.  This decision will be based on, as I said the fluid in his lungs and if it's complex.  Complex means it has LDH, glucose and other various things in it and how bad tonights CT looks.  I'll know more tomorrow.

He's still on oxygen (5 liters/high flow NC) and he desaturates pretty quickly.  The pain he's in is almost unbearable for me to watch (keep in mind Iam a nurse who takes care of dying children so that's saying a lot)

What's the end all be all of this?  He's not even close to out of the woods yet and I wonder if they will move him to a long term acute care center once they feel he's stable.

Again, I can't say thank you enough for your support and good thoughts!

Donna, any small step e01n has towards being well and up and running again is a good positive sign in my eyes. I have kept you and e01n in my thinks constantly and continue to do so. I am stubborn enough that I believe that he will pull through plus the well wishes from others here and the love and support from you and the rest of your family is making a difference. Be well my friend and my thoughts and prayers are going to both you and e01n.

earthycouple -> RE: To Our Friends...(this really isn't random stupiditiy) (1/1/2009 5:27:42 PM)

Surgery went well.  Chest tubes are draining just as they should.  e01n's tired.  Very tired.  I know that getting him home in our own bed will help.  His doctor tells me possibly Monday he'll get home.  It depends on how much drainage we keep seeing from the chest tubes.  His lungs sound much better now and hopefully we'll have no more setbacks.

Thanks again to everyone.
