To care or not to care, I'd have to know what the arena league was in the first place  .

Something tells me you don't mean this: babyfoot. The best indoors football there is :-) .

It's babyfoot, otherwise known as table football. It used to be played in dirty French bars, before the days of the Internet and texting. Cigarettes and alcohol compulsory.

God knows why it is called 'foosball' in the U.S.  .

I read that we call it Foosball, because of the German pronunciation for football.  I don't know how that happened.  At least the atmosphere is the same.  You find them in bars, or when I was a kid in arcades frequented by truants.  I never liked it much; I was more of a skeeball aficinado.

I loved it when I was a kid because my dad had bought an old table from a cafe that had closed down - spent entire weekends playing it with my bro'. Strangely, they think it was invented either in France, or in Germany. I even hear Switzerland... in any event, it's just as fun as ping-pong :-) .

I never got into it, and I love football, so that tells me most Americans couldn't care less about arena football.

It's not real football.  Same goes for NFL teams that play in domes.
