~ FAST REPLY ~ We believe in it because it is a wonderful time to have a party and do what I enjoy - give gifts. I'm a terrible gift getter, but I really enjoy seeing people open presents and get; "just what I wanted!" We celebrate it as we do any opportunity to have a great time with friends and family. I've just about completed making my Italian Christmas cookies, I would have been done, but the peanut butter chocolate kisses & jelly seem to have evaporated in the last week and need replenishment. We have an 'open house' on the generally given work holiday and invite a wide diversity of people. We've ordered a good bit of food to accommodate everyone's tastes from vegan and vegetarian to carnivore and meatitarian. Nobody is required to work cooking, even beth, and there is no 'set time'. I always hated the days of going to one place and not being able to enjoy myself because I had to keep looking at my watch to see if I was still on schedule to visit Aunt Theressa, Uncle Pat, or get to be at Aunt Gloria's in time for the turkey carving. Although the occasion of the winter solstice occurs when the climate makes dancing outdoors naked a bit more frantic, the chilling effect on beth's nipples is quite enchanting. On Wednesday night and Thursday they're predicting chilly temperatures down in the 50's (BRRRRRRR) but as long as the rain hold off, our tradition of singing holiday songs, drinking eggnog and hot toddies, while floating in the heated pool and hot tub will continue. No matter how a religion, or special interest, tries to hijack a holiday, any excuse to party should looked forward to and enjoyed. Speaking of hot toddy recipes; I found a great one that I tested at our Thanksgiving event. Apple cider, anise stars, whole clove, nutmeg, cinnamon sticks, and....wait for it.....Single Malt Scotch! Put it on the stove, get it to boil, remove and let sit for at least a couple hours. When ready to serve heat up and bring the mug over to the hot tub. Hope everyone had a good Solstice yesterday; has enough oil in the lamp for the opening of Hanukkah today; celebrates the Nicaean counsel designated day for Christ's birth; our British empire friend have enough Boxes for Friday, and our academic social inclusiaries enjoy the harvest celebration of Kwanzaa, which also begins on Friday! It's a party people! Life is too short and gets shorter by a day, every day! Lighten up & ENJOY! Happy Holiday to ALL!
