Owner59 I had laughing gas used on me when I had all 4 wisdom teeth extracted from the jaw at once, and it really didn't make it so I didn't feel the pain. Infact as I got dizzy and disoriented I got scared.

Owner, I was going to Western Dental at they time, they're I now know notoriously shitty care providers. To make it worse, they hadn't even begun to cut through the gums, but were crowding my other teeth and growing in sideways.

So I got to hear every lovely *yes Sarcasm*crack and crunch and other noise of them being broke and pulled out.

And then later NOTHING  would touch the pain but sleep and I couldn't eat and of course in those situations all the things that occure to you to eat DON'T occur to you. and I was so desperately hungry,

I had one dentist refuse to stop scrapping my teeth when he was hurting me and I'd indicated ow ow ow ow, , I had to finally knock his hand aside and say stop you're hurting me. Another time they left me sitting waiting for my appointment over 2 hours, and then another hour in the chair to wait for the dentist.

They also screwed up my x rays so many times It took 5 attempts to get them right, and I developed a sore from the bite things cutting my cheeks.

Somebody should have told that to my parents when they consented to have my wisdom teeth extracted when I was 9. No anesthesia, no nitrous oxide, just a good old novocain shot.

There definitely are reasons why I panic when the dentist is mentioned.

I'm afraid of dentist as a side effect of being afraid of drills. My little brother used to chase me around the house with a handheld power drill and nearly killed me a couple times (thankfully I'm really good at dodging and putting stuff in front of me). My parents never believed me until my father saw me try and let go of the arms of a dentist chair once. TO this day I still have to force myself to go because toothaches HURT... that and having very little enamel on key spots makes me teeth weak. Although, I was forced through a Hand and Power Tools class as part of my Interior Design degree (and 3 more classes in the workshop too *whimper*) and it's a little easier to go to the dentist now. *smiles* I no longer have to peel my hands off the armrest at least. But I'll probably always be afraid of dentists.

In my youth I was terrified of dentists and dental appointments.

That is, until I was discharged from the military.  Thereafter, both my kidneys quit several times and I have suffered through numerous episodes of kidney stones with both the laser and garden hose (oh lord), surgery used.

Now, nothing about dentists phases me.  If I wince as the dentist brings a drill near me all he says is "kidney stones."  Drill baby drill.  There is no comparison. If I do not have kidney stones I am alright.

I'm a former phobe of dentists <I mean I'd swear i'd kill myself lock myself in the bathroom really dramatic stuff to get it clear dentist equal <devil>

My former Master was like no dentist? No master ?simple as that you want to be controlled by fear well have fear beat your ass and train you cause fear will cock block you from now on .

It really was for my own good it's not like he was manipulating me to shove small animals in my butt .Just a simple non threating visit a check up as he put it checking under your hood like a car .It was his direct balls out do it or lose mentality that got me over it .Might not work with everyone

There are phobia courses called exposure therapy and you just breathe and concentrate sounds horseshitty I know but learning to breathe correctly when in a feared response in a useful tool . Some phobias need medication to over come them cause it's like modern day post traumatic stress episodes , there is no shame in some help with dealing with whatever is triggering that terror response .

The real downside is due to yrs of fear controlling me and neglect of the mouth and teeth I have massive dental visits and various procedures I'm going through .Not only do reg check ups help the teeth and gums but they pick up oral cancers and I just kick myself everytime I have chemo .
<surrender to someone not a phobia fear has no health plan >
I just thought that was worth sharing got me out of lurkdom lol <crawling back into imagination land >
