Warning! This is a silly post.

Basically, I was shopping around for a new toy - I settled on a model, but they had all these lovely color choices, and it got me thinking about what I'd like in a toy, and what other people preferred and why. I found that the only immediate "NO" for me was flesh-colored, because it creeped me out - though a friend said she liked it for the realistic quality.

What are your usual color preferences and why? Not just limited to insertables but I'm also curious about rope, restraints, ect.

For me, I like natural hemp rope colors (though there are places that offer really enticing ones.) and black leather/restraints most of the time otherwise. Of course, the classic silver of ducttape is nice too.

Thoughts? Opinions? (I just got my new toy and boy is it shiny.)

Black and red mostly, but I am bit partial towards darker shades as well, blues, green and purple. Not sure about pink, never really liked pinks all that much. I am with your friend on the idea of flesh tones, they kind of creep me out also.
As for shape, cock contoured and true to form, is something that really creeps me out. It is very unlikely I would ever have a toy in that particular shape.

pink. black and red come in second but my toys tend to be pink.

My preferred color for most things is black. For metal items, I like chrome or nickel since it is less likely to rust. Duct tape should always be silver.

when possible, blue. I have a thing for blue. *points to username*. I also have a lot of black and shiny silver/chrome/etc.

But I like blue... and black... the color of bruises!

lol . . . . I have a color scheme (pink, grey, brown) & I only like things (vanilla world as well as BDSM) that are in my color scheme . . . . .

I'm in the midst of changing from my old color scheme (red, black, white) to my new one, so this issue comes up regularly . . . . .

I started using a color scheme, & adhering to it, over a decade ago when I was single-mother to 3 school-age kidlets, half-time employee, & half-time undergrad statistics student -- it was a defensive measure to save me time & keep me lookin' stylish . . .. . It started with my wardrobe but crept out to the rest of my universe because of the regular aesthetic satisfaction it gave me . . . . .

However, black was ultimately too depressing & visually 'harsh', lots of red had unfortunate gangsta connotations that I had not realized beforehand, & white is a huge pain to maintain . .. . . & I'm a very intense person who is regularly perceived as quite formidable, so I decided revising my color scheme to softer colors would help soften my image -- a good thing . ... . ..

Then I got involved in the organized-&-out kink community, & so my color scheme influences all my kink acquisitions . . . . . . . . lol

i love black and red, but have have a few blue toys too.... i am not a pink or purple type of girly girl....and as stated, black and blue is always very pretty....

Well, generally speaking, my favorite color is green... followed probably by black, blue, and purple, or orange if I want a bright color... So stuff I get tends to be green or black, for the most part. (Non-BDSM-related stuff)

But let's see... For insertables, any color is fine as long as it isn't flesh colored, really.. Although for a preference I'd go with black, followed by purple, green, blue, and clear (in no specific order)... Red is alright too, especially for, say, a ballgag. =)

For restraints, cuffs/etc.. I'd go with black... Although to be honest they all seem to be black in the first place, perhaps having some nice dark green restraints would be nice...

For rope, pretty much any color goes, preferences being, of course, dark green, black, and dark purple.

Kia - that's really interesting about your color schemes! I automatically do something very similar - my wardrobe tends to go in for red/black/grey or blues, bluegreens, and blacks. (sometimes purple too... peacock colors, basically!) but it makes it easy to throw together an outfit on the run.

Fnordstrum - I know I've seen places make custom restraints with some really gorgeous coloring. I definitely wouldn't mind having a set of cuffs in a dark foresty green!

I think that color can add something, certainly it's no fun to play with things that aren't in some way pleasing to the eye.

For rope I have different colored tips on white rope for different lengths, for leather straps I have black leather with different finishing for the buckles/locking snaps. For toys well I have a red vibrating cock ring. I'm color blind so darker colors are more appealing as they all tend to be close to the same for me. So I'm a bad choice of person to ask for color preference I suppose.

I've noticed that some of my female nilla friends have pink and purple (Girly colored) toys while a handful of them have white and fleshy colored ones. I've noticed that if a person is girly so arebtheir toys, if a person is more towards the middle of the girly-manish spectrum they have white or fleshy colored. Also one friend of mine has an "All Anerican Challenge" (Gross I know) and its black, and shiny, and scarry looking.
