I was always intrigued by the mainstream bondage scenes in almost every adventure hero movie, from the bound helpless lady Darrow in King Kong to the bound helpless Lois Lane in Superman. Almost every mainstream adventure hero movie has the heroine bound, scantily clad, generally dirty and grimy too for some strange reason, before the hero saves her from the clutches of the monster.

I kind'a like the part where she always faints ... that's my cue to take full and complete advantage of her, much unlike the hero. heh heh ...

Samurai movies often include bondage too -- you could call Rashomon a bondage/cuckolding flick with 4 versions of events for our viewing pleasure. One of the Samurai series with Toshiro Mifune has him bound and hanging from a tree -- I guess we'd call it a suspension scene; Yojimbo also has a suspension scene near the end with the old bar keeper hung up. But we shouldn't be surprised by this, because the Japanese are really perverted.

One seriously kinky movie is The Night Porter with Dirk Bogarde and Charlotte Rampling. Here's the plot summary from IMDB: "The dark and melancholy story of a former teenage Nazi concentration camp inmate, Lucia, and the S.S. officer who was her torturer/lover, Max , who accidentally meet again in a Vienna hotel in 1957 where Max works as the night porter." Yum.

I know there are some jolly good DVDs on Shibari from Germany and Japan both with English translations as well as a library of "R" rated or "XXX" Rated BDSM theme porno films but I can't find a list of them though.

AAAAAAHHHHGGGGG. I saw a French film about 5 years ago that was so bondage/bdsm orientated that it wouldnt have looked out of place on some of the more 'intersteing' bondage film sites (you know where!). Now i am destined to spend all of New Years Eve trying to remember the name. Thanks.[:@]

-=Mainstream Movies=-
Here is a copy of my list.  Although some of these movies may not directly address the BDSM lifestyle, they include aspects of it such as sadomasochism, capture or surrender.
Marquis de Sade's Justine (1968) [Uncut]
aka: Deadly Sanctuary, Justine, Justine and Juliet, Justine ovvero le disavventure della virtù
Genres: Horror and Erotica/Adult (cut vs uncut)
Starring: Klaus Kinski, Romina Power
Director: Jesus Franco Rating
Dubbed: English/French
124 min uncut, On DVD

REVIEW - One of the most lavish and bizarre films ever made by the notorious Jess Franco.

SYNOPSIS - Romina Power (18-year-old-daughter of Tyrone Power) stars as Justine, a young woman cast out of a French orphanage and thrust into a depraved world. It's a twisted tale of the ultimate corruption of innocence as told by the Marquis de Sade.

NOTE - Originally released with over 30 minutes cut, DVDs released in 2004 are now available fully restored and completely uncensored.

Eugenie  ... The Story of Her Journey Into Perversion (1969)
Genre: Adult
Starring: Marie Liljedahl Maria Rohm Jack Taylor
Director: Jesús Franco
Dubbed: English/French
87 mins, On DVD

REVIEW - One of five adaptations of the Marquis de Sade's Philosophy in the Boudoir directed by cult filmmaker Jesus Franco, this version was perhaps the most subdued, although it was still explicit enough to encounter censorship problems.

SYNOPSIS - Maria Rohm stars as Mme. de St. Ange, who reads the Marquis' book and fantasizes about its excessive content. St. Ange has sex with a man named Mistival (Paul Muller) in exchange for permission to take his lovely daughter Eugenie (Marie Liljedahl) to her vacation island. When they arrive, St. Ange and her lover Mirvel (Jack Taylor) seduce Eugenie into joining their bizarre sexual role-playing. A party follows, during which Eugenie is drugged and forced to submit to sadomasochistic games directed by Dolmance (Christopher Lee) and his oddly-dressed followers. When she awakens from her stupor, however, Eugenie finds that the games have turned to murder. Nino Korda and Herbert Fuchs co-star in this provocative exploitation film.

NOTE - Christopher Lee's role as the narrator Dolmance was originally accepted by George Sanders, whose personal crises forced him to withdraw prior to production. Franco returned to the same source material for Eugenie de Sade (1970), Plaisir a Trois (1973), Cocktail Special (1978), and Eugenie, Historia de Una Perversion (1980).

Salo: 120 Days of Sodom (1975)
Genre: Drama
Starring: Paolo Bonacelli Umberto Paolo Quintavalle Caterina Boratto
Director: Pier Paolo Pasolini
SubTitles: English
Dubbed: Italian
112 Minutes, On DVD

REVIEW - The Marquis de Sade's The 120 Days of Sodom served as the basis for the Pier Paolo Pasolini film.  The film is disturbing, reprehensible, and morally bankrupt as The 120 Days of Sodom.  Like Sade's infamous novel Pasolini's film is a nihilistically bleak look into the heart of man.  Be prepared for one of the roughest films you'll ever see. The final work of notorious Italian director Pier Paolo Pasolini, this film updates the Marquis de Sade's most extreme novel to fascist Italy in the final days of WW II.

SYNOPSIS - Using the Marquis de Sade's ideas on the decadence of 18th century France, Pasolini represents Fascist Italy (1944-45).   We are shown the upper class – always removed and protected from the outer world – as predators of the poor, weak, young, and less educated.  Dispensing with the novel's meditations on sexual liberation and the search for truth, Pasolini presents four decadents, a group of wealthy adults who kidnap dozens of young men and women and subject them to the most hideous forms of torture and perversion in an isolated villa. Rape, murder, and a coprophagic banquet are only the beginning of the atrocities on display.  Shopping amongst the kidnapped older children of bourgeoisie, they choose eighteen, and steal them away to a hidden mansion, where there is no escape. There, the adults live out every twisted fantasy they've ever had or can now muster, while demeaning, raping, and torturing the youngsters. The teens react in many ways, none of which are "pretty".  This entire film experience MUST be viewed as a symbolic, emotional "explanation" of what it was like to live under Nazi/Fascist rule (in this case), and how an otherwise normal, decent society could be turned into lunatics and sub-animals. Although made 30 years ago, it blatantly and painfully illustrates what those in power are capable of doing when boredom gives rein to impulse. In comparison, "Lord of the Flies" barely lights upon these issues, "Pink Flamingos" was but a tiny, kitschy springboard, and "Schindler's List" described a much narrower range of degradation.

The entire climactic torture sequence of the captives who defied the "rules" is entirely devoid of sound. The captives, long inured to a spurious and malignant setting, have discarded all liberties of the flesh, including speech and protest. The final shackles are locked when the masters sever the tongue of a captive. The victims have now been raped of their speech and protest both physically and in spirit. The masters also take turns watching the bloodshed through binoculars. This is the ultimate triumph of master over slave; the masters possess the will to view their torture and have complete control over their specimens. Most upsetting of all, however, is the gleeful subordination of a once vivacious boy to his ultimate master. "Good, you were ready," says the Duke, regarding the boy's erection. The boy has transcended the role of sexual participant and has entered the territory of a nihilistic sexual soldier, eveready to perform.

NOTES FILM - To this day, Salo is banned in some countries. This is NOT a film about acting, lighting, sound, camera work, etc.. This is a film about states of mind – theirs then, ours now. NOTE DIRECTOR - Sadly, this would be the last film Pasolini would direct, as a young male prostitute murdered him shortly after Salò's completion. Buy at Amazon (Very hard to find and expensive.  From $50.00 used up to $1,100.00 new.)
Last Tango in Paris (1972) [Uncut] aka: Ultimo tango a Parigi
Genre: Drama
Starring: Marlon Brando Maria Schneider Maria Michi
Director: Bernardo Bertolucci
SubTitles: English/French
Dubbed: English
129 mins, On DVD

REVIEW - In Bernardo Bertolucci's art-house classic, Marlon Brando delivers one of his characteristically idiosyncratic performances as Paul. The combination of Brando's acting, Bertolucci's direction, Vittorio Storaro's cinematography, and Gato Barbieri's music is unbeatable, creating one of the classic European art movies of the 1970s.  It was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Marlon Brando) and Best Director (Bernardo Bertolucci).

SYNOPSIS - Paul a middle-aged American in "emotional exile" who comes to Paris when his estranged wife commits suicide. Chancing to meet young Frenchwoman Jeanne (Maria Schneider), Paul enters into a sadomasochistic, carnal relationship with her, indirectly attacking the hypocrisy all around him through his raw, outrageous sexual behavior. Paul also hopes to purge himself of his own feelings of guilt, brilliantly (and profanely) articulated in a largely ad-libbed monologue at his wife's coffin.  The film caused a deep scandal in Italy for an anal sex scene featuring the use of butter.  Once seen, the infamous "butter scene" is never forgotten.

MY NOTE - Great soundtrack.  The orchestral jazz soundtrack was composed by Gato Barbieri.  I have been a fan of his other jazz music LPs for a long time.

But at FYE - Rent It at Netflix
Blind Beast (1969) aka: "Mojuu", "Moju", "Warehouse"
Genres: Foreign Films, Subtitled
Satrring: Eiji Funakoshi, Mako Midori
Directed by: Japanese New Wave cinema, auteur Yasuzo Masumara.
86 mins, On DVD

REVIEW - An erotic horror film of sexual perversion and sadomasochism that gives new meaning to the expression "tortured artist."

SYNOPSIS - The disturbing story of a blind sculptor obsessed with the female form. He kidnaps a model and holding her captive in his studio, she suffers at the hands of the artist. Giving in to find an avenue of escape, she becomes caught up in a series of sadomasochistic games. After she loses her sight and her mind, the sexual games become even rougher. Whips are replaced with knives, which give way to meat cleavers, as the demented girl begs to have her arms and legs cut off.

 Flower & Snake (2005)

 Run Time: 115 Minutes
SYNOPSIS - Mr. Ippei Tashiro, a 95 year old man knwn as the "Showa Prince of Darkness," who arranges for a gang leader to kidnap and confine Shizuko for his pleasure.
REVIEW - An opulent example of Japanese S&M sexploitation at its most politically incorrect, this story of a woman’s abduction and sexual slavery is the Danger After Dark film most likely to appall. If you know the world of Japanese sado-masochistic sexploitation films, you’ve already bought your ticket.

Happy valley has to be one of the most powerful and erotic movies ever made. The atmosphere of helplessness and underlying menace is just nerve jingling.

Something to look forward to:

De SM rechter. (Translated: The SM Judge).
A belgian movie based on a true story of a Judge who was relieved from his post because he and his wife practiced S&M.
The movie comes out in march 2009. I saw a preview yesterday and it seems that they shot quite a few bondage and sm scenes.
