That is so awesome. As a person who has been on both sides of the fence in this 'giving' situation i can tell you that at times, $5.00 seems like a fortune.  These posts reminded me of my 7 year old neice. She had a birthday party in November, and because my sister is the accountant at the ice skating place in the town they live in she got to invite her whole class cause it was free. i will never forget the amount of pride i heard in her voice as she informed me that she had been told by my sister that she could not keep the presents so she decided to donate them to toys for tots. {although she did get to keep the one from me}

Our family holiday at the beach was our "gift", and my other gifts for folks haven't been delivered yet, since we exchange around New Year's.  I loved sending holiday cards in the exchanges this year--and can't wait to get my MAIL tomorrow, since I just got home an hour ago.  I haven't had as much charity money as I ususally do this year, but I gave to the local community house that helps single moms and such, and in Florida, to a veteran's charity that helps homeless veterans.  (The very IDEA of a homeless vet MAKES MY HEAD EXPLODE.)

OMG, I'd say "Twilight Zone[image]http://www.collarchat.com/micons/m28.gif[/image]!!!!"  That is so weird.  Nope, don't think he's your Dad.....not that I KNOW ABOUT anyway...wink, wink[;)].  He could remember being so spooked by that movie when he saw it at the theater as a young boy.  They would never show it on TV and he really wanted to see it again.  He just about wore the tape out once I gave it to him.  He wasn't scared anymore though[:o].  Oh well, he really enjoyed it anyway.  Hope your dad does too[:)]...........luci

I gave my nieces a sewing machine, and it's so great because they love to sew, and now they won't be fighting over who gets to use moms sewing machine and who has to wait. PEace and quiet is always a blessed gift. Plus it made two young girls VERY happy.

And I bought Daddy some much needed jeans, and that was so great since he had no jeans to wear to work and no work clothing means you'll be bitched at by the manager for not dressing properly for work* yes the dress code for work is  jeans and a company t shirt.*

OH geez!  I just posted this somewhere else, so now I feel like I'm bragging.

Yesterday, I got an email from a very dear friend who, unfortunately, is now having the same terrible experience I did last October.  I won't say what that is here.  It's sufficient to say that it was something bad enough to make her feel like her legs were cut out right from under her because of something that someone else did.

During our last minute shopping last evening, I couldn't stop thinking about her.  I thought I could get her a small token.  You know.  Just something I could leave on the doorstep for her to find.  Some of our favorite times together have been at this little Mexican place not too far from here.  We'll get a bite and a margarita and have fun while talking business.  So I thought, why not?

When we got there, I was concerned that there were more cars than I thought normal, so I called her phone from the car.  She invited us in and was so glad to see us!  The visit and emotional support for her in her time of need meant ever so much more to her than the frozen margarita mix in My hand.  It gave her a chance to have someone she could lean on, who really knew what she was going through.  She was so happy just to have someone who really understood the pain that was in her chest.  To have someone take the time out of their life, on Christmas Eve, to show her that she was important, and someone would hold her up when it felt like her legs were knocked out from under her.

No, not as great as feeding the hungry or sheltering the homeless, but to one person, I got to be the ambassador of good will.

So, when I read what was in red, I knew what I wanted to write... Then I read on.  You guys are just sooooo wonderful!  I don't know how many times I had to wipe tears from my eyes!  I can't top these!  But here is mine anyways:

I didn't have ANY money this year.  I haven't worked since February of LAST year.  I went to school, and I have just been trying to get my life together.  So the only money I had was what my mom gave me.  So I got together about $5 and baught some sculpey (That oven bake clay stuff you get at craft stores), and I made Sweets a dragon sculpture.  He loves dragons.  I spent about 15 hours making it.  It was a lot of work.  And I was VERY proud of it.  Sweets LOVED it!  ::happy dance::

I also gave Him a poem that I wrote for Him, a CD of pictures of the two of us, and some of just me.  He really loved His gifts.  I was so happy.  That was the best gift ever!

Well if you want more than the 4 shirts the company supplies you do have to pay for them and the special non slip kitchen shoes the company  requires, that's the only ding to the place I have lol.

I got my dad a paper that his father wrote before he died- a 22 page monster having something to do with nuclear tests. Apparently he worked with Lockeed doing nuclear research, a fact my family only recently found out.  He loved it, and has been toting it around, showing the rest of his side of the family. Him and  his brothers spent a good chunk of Christmas night huddled together trying to decipher it.

Every once in a while my father will get excited over something, and I like seeing it. [:D]

On the other hand, I got my seven year old cousin the Indiana Jones 'whip' that makes noise when you crack it. He spent a good part of the day jumping around and waving it wildly in the living room in the middle of everyone, and trying to 'crack' it onto the lamps. He loves it, it's driving his mother up the wall.... my job here is done!  [:D][:D][:D]

Sunshine,I took two handicaped young men on their very first deer hunt this year, One using a walker and the other having trouble getting around,,You should have seen the look on their face when we dressed them in blaze orange and took them to sight in the guns they would be using..I had extra doe permits so the gentleman took home does to eat this winter..I plan on doing more of this in the futire...Diane will become involved this summer by offering horse back rides to disadventage youths..You don't have to do alot to bring a smile to some ones faces smile..bounty

Well, I have to admit that I feel pretty good about what happened to me......

About 2 weeks ago, some rat bastard stole my bicycle.  The folks I work with, upon hearing that, collected money to get me a brand new one....even tho I had the $$ and was just waiting for payday to come.....so anyway, I took all the money I had earmarked for my bike, and got a tag off the angel tree at our local Wal-mart, and went nuts getting stuff for a little 4 yo girl.  She got new clothes, and a doll, and stuff to go with it to play "Mommy" with.  Ended up spending more on her than I would have on the bike, but it was such a nice feeling waking up on Christmas morning knowing that somewhere, a little girl was getting a Christmas that she might not have had otherwise.  So the guys and gals at work gave twice......bless their hearts!

I also bought a bunch of gifts to give to needy kids who other wise wouldn't of gotten christmas.
