I will always remember her as the quintessential Cat Woman in the original Batman series

She was a role model....she lived a full and long life. And in my family, we always said she looked just like my nana...but less evil.[;)]

angelikaJ, Thank you for posting this.  A great loss.
She was a woman capable of exuding a phenomenal sensuality.

I have two thoughts to share about her.  The first is the
report that when she was performing in europe in the 50's
Orsen Wells was quoted as saying: "She is simply, the most
exciting woman in the world."  I don't know if this was during
or after Wells was married to Rita Heyworth, but he did have
a basis for comparison.

The second was appearance she made on some late night
talk show.  She came out to center stage, she pearched on
a stool, they dimmed the lights and she sang, just her in a spot.

When she was done there was a dead sillence in the place for
about 40 seconds before the place burst into applause which lasted
until they went to commerecial.

When they came back she was on "the couch" with ther other guests
one of whom was Mort Saul.  The air was still thin in the room, no one
knew what to say.  Finally Mort Saul spke up and said. "I worked one
nightclub with a female singer who used to move a lot and do a lot of
business during her songs so I asked her why.  She said to me. "Well,
what else can you do out there?"  Mort Saul then said, "I hope she is
watching, because now she knows."

Eartha Kitt was an exceptional woman, no doubt about it.

When I heard, I pulled out her album, "Eartha Kitt Revisited" and have been listening to it over and over...

The way those beautiful words roll out of her mouth when she's singing "Uska Dara" or her purring French with "C'est Si Bon"... (sigh)

Then you flip over to side two... (yes, I;m listening to her on LP) and when she hits "I Want to be Evil" (a true anthem for every Femme Domme worth her salt) You just want to go down to your knees. The kids can keep their shitty hip hop, or third rate porno lyrics from whatever tawdry flash in the pan talent they find amusing these days.... This lady had class, CATtitude... and (judging by the album cover with that skin tight silver cocktail dress) a killer bod. No wonder Orson Wells once called her the most sexually arousing woman alive...

Jesus, first Bettie Page, then Beverly Garland, now Eartha.... the people who defined "sexy" for me are dropping like flies! :(

A tragic loss to the stage and music. She will be missed and mourned by millions.

underyourlash -> RE: Eartha Kitt dies (12/26/2008 1:15:34 AM)

Although I lean towards Pfiefer's catwoman, you cannot deny Eartha's was the best all around!!! Thank you, Miss Kitt.

Not the catwoman that I remembered. There were two others before her.

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: Eartha Kitt dies (12/26/2008 6:03:16 AM)

she'll always be my favorite Catwoman (i loved the way she would purred on tv), actress and singer.

i'll miss her

CatdeMedici -> RE: Eartha Kitt dies (12/26/2008 6:49:31 AM)

Funny how she has all these accolades pouring in and yet no one remembers how she got ostracized by both white and black circles for her determination and "difficult behavior"--she was a dominant woman in a world not yet ready.

kittinSol -> RE: Eartha Kitt dies (12/26/2008 6:52:05 AM)

Eartha was anything but an old fashioned girl: and I got some serious sex ed with a few of her songs... a light goes out...

roland23 -> RE: Eartha Kitt dies (12/26/2008 11:53:48 AM)

She was an amazing woman. Her persona was liberating. Thanks for starting this tribute!

hejira92 -> RE: Eartha Kitt dies (12/26/2008 12:28:31 PM)

I met her when I was in High School- she came to a dress rehearsal of our production of Kismet. One of the flats fell during Baubles, bangles and beads (a big production number). The cast scattered on stage. We were lucky no one was hurt. She was very gracious to all of us. We were mortified, but it's a hysterical story now.

Rest in peace. You will be remembered.

MysticsLily -> RE: Eartha Kitt dies (12/26/2008 3:20:51 PM)

I came here tonight specifically looking to see if any one had posted about this and intending to post if no one had.

The moment I found out I started to cry and my Mistress came running into the room thinking someone in my own family had died.   It was women like her that paved the way for young women like me to find their place in the world.

May she have a special place to rest.

Lily
