I'm sorry, what a loss that is.  In addition to his wonderful plays, I though his screenplay of "The French Lieutenent's Woman" was absolutely brilliant.

I've been a part of a couple of productions of his plays. The man knew how to write for the stage! The Homecoming is one of my favorites, and his screenplay adaptation for Sleuth should be used as a textbook for screenwriting.

78... not a bad run. Anything approaching 80 these days isn't too shabby. Especially when you are involved in something as unsecure as a life in American Theatre.

I'm not sure, but I think he was the one who once said, "In America, being creative is often treated as a birth defect."

He was a pioneer of the postmodernist movement in theatre, made fringe popular, influenced so much in theatre and television, and was an inspiration to so many, including me.

Saddened as I am by this news, and aware of the tragic loss to British theatre, I remain grateful and appreciative of his great contribution to the performing arts.

There will never be another Pinter.
