YoursMistress -> Pleased to join (12/26/2008 7:15:35 AM)

I am a 48-year-old Southern California man with a submissive nature looking to explore my unfolding interests and to seek friends and, hopefully, a long-term relationship with a caring person of a complementing nature.  My introduction to BDSM came through a MMORPG (Massive Multi-player Online Role Playing Game) called Second Life, which is arguably not a game at all but rather a virtual realm full of content created entirely by the user community.  As one might imagine, there are any sort of diversions, entertainment, businesses, etc. available.  I discovered a strong BDSM presence ranging from fashion to dolcette and other interesting fetishes.  For a complete novice, it provided for me a safe environment to experiment with things that would have been far too frightening to do in real life.  It can also, I think, provide an additional dimension to on-line connection for those either fearful of physical interaction or isolated from active BDSM communities.  The depth of emotion I felt during bondage and confinement was surprising to me.   Now that I have been to an event in person, I can see how well the virtual world has prepared me and how poorly the virtual substitutes for the complete experience.

For myself, it has made for a difficult transition.  In game, I am owned by wonderful and gifted Domme, who has no desire to expand the relationship out of the game for her own reasons.  She has set the bar very high for me, in terms of what to expect from a real-life BDSM relationship.  I do struggle here a little, in being used to participating in that community “in character”, in that I have been instructed there to address Dom(me)s and non-participants as Sir or Miss, and only my Mistress as “Mistress.”   I find correspondence here written both in an “in character” style, as I will call it, and in one with subs expressing less deference to Dom(me)s.  I suppose there is a line for each beyond which the deference seems insincere or, on the other side, disrespectful.

All in all, I am excited to join this community and look forward to making new friends and learning.

Hmm, I still need a signature.
