As i am new to this lifestyle i would like a Master's or Dom's point of view on this please.  When You are looking for a sub, what do You consider to be essential qualities in a  for a relationship and trainability. Also, what would be red flags to You? i am trying to be the best i can (for my Master) so any or all advice would be greatly appreciated.  Thank-You.

My opinion and mine alone:  A strong desire to please, ability to communicate honestly and openly, and a desire to be of service in any form.

Intelligence, a sense of humor, obedience, ambition, self-worth and the desire to want to please. These are the traits that I look for in a submissive.

Only one quality is essential - honest self awareness.

DesFIP -> RE: What do You consider a good sub traits are? (12/30/2008 9:15:28 AM)

What is your dominant looking for? Since just as all subs are not service oriented, neither are all dominants seeking service subs. Some want total obedience, others enjoy some resistance/brattiness/force play - whatever you like to call it.

But self awareness is something we all need. As much to know what to communicate to a partner or prospective partner as well as to help seek a compatible partner.

i'm very peculiar as to what i want from a sub: love, honesty, communication, obedience. others may have other preferences

Sincerity of self is what really matters.  As long as they are being that, then I can sincerely choose whether they will be right for me or not.

DarkSteven -> RE: What do You consider a good sub traits are? (12/30/2008 4:42:26 PM)

Exactly what I would want in a vanilla relationship - self confidence and awareness, sense of humor, intelligence, attractiveness.  And then for a sub, add to that a desire to please and to follow my lead.

Edited to add:  I just perved your profile and see that you're owned.  Nobody's opinion should matter to you except Master G.  Ask Him what HE wants.

- Accountability
- Openness
- Sincerity
- Calmness
- Not rooted in a belief system
- Submissive personality
- Physical attractiveness
- Healthy body and mind

For red flags, consider the inversion of the above.

mstrj69 -> RE: What do You consider good sub traits are? (12/31/2008 5:32:23 PM)

Your Master should be the one to make the choice but for mine, the main red flag would be a refusal to talk to me, especially about something that would keep her from keeping me happy.

AlexandraLynch -> RE: What do You consider good sub traits are? (12/31/2008 6:47:00 PM)

Pretty much the same as in vanilla relationships:
1) Own your own baggage, and know what's in it.
2) Practice communication on everything, regularly.
3) Be honest with yourself, and me, and the world.
4) Be intelligent and witty, so you can keep up with Us when we start punning.
5) Be in good enough shape to do what you need to as a sub. (Flexibility and stamina are more an issue with us than total poundage or measurements.)

Ariella,

The simple path is never cause him disappointment, be it sexual or otherwise.

1 - Female (human variety)
2 - Intelligence
3 - Passion

but most importantly, she needs to be able to whimper "thank you Master" after a lengthy and brutal ass-fucking.

M4STER -> RE: What do You consider a good sub traits are? (1/4/2009 5:05:28 PM)

Essential qualities in a sub for a relationship and trainability:
1) Honest and able to communicate
2) Sincere
2) Enthusiastic
3) Desire to serve
4) Open minded

SirEbonyPhoenix -> RE: What do You consider a good sub traits are? (1/5/2009 2:43:24 PM)

My personal preferences are that a submissive is honest, sincere, serious, mentally and emotionally sound and lastly, willing to listen and learn. As for red flags, my deal breakers, among many, are lying, cheating and behaving immaturely.

Jeptha -> RE: What do You consider a good sub traits are? (1/5/2009 3:55:00 PM)

In no particular order, and just off the top of my head;

Honesty & Forthrightness + Communication skills + some kind of moral compass...
interest,
motivation,
Passion,
curiosity,
Open mindedness,
an actively perverse imagination (a high sex drive can be nice, too),
a desire to submit.

I'm sure I'm missing some.
But those are all good qualities.

As far as red flags go, that I'll have to think more about. There are lots of red flags all the time, but I'm not sure if they apply in all circumstances...they may be more situational.

This(highlighted portion) certainly made me smile.

Ha!
I was going to add "affectionate" to my list, but that seems so whispy in light of the above...

But, yeah, I like affectionate.

As far as red flags go, when I'm just getting to know someone I like when they are excited and hopeful, but I also want to feel that they're grounded in reality at least somewhat.

I try not to jump the gun with red flags, because sometimes things I didn't think would work at first glance turned out to work well.

Whether or not there is chemistry there becomes evident fairly quickly, but it's good to give it a fair chance I think.

LOL - I hadn't even seen that until you quoted it - thank you for that!
