All good advise. You knew what you were doing and had clearly done your homework. However part of your question was about thickness of nails so here goes...

We have played with everything from the thinnest needles. thickest canulas (about 2mm in diameter) to shark hooks used in suspensions deeply threaded through the breast, typically about 3.5mm thick.

Do you understand about the lay of the skin? This is important when you get to the thicker needles (and nails) as getting it wrong will have the skin tearing like tissue paper. Try pinching the skin on your arm... do it in two directions, in one it will be tight and difficult to pinch, in the other it will easy to pinch and hold on to. Its the same all over the body. The piercing should be through the skin in the direction that its easiest to pinch and hold on.

I have to say that sticking things in jaz (no im not being rude) is something i love doing. Bigger, longer, thicker needles feel quite natural. I have been interested to see a few people using nails but been horrified by how little they seemed to pay attention to the basics... i dont want to kill her with infections etc... so when we do it it will be with carefully chosen nails, probably about 2mm thick. They will be stainless or nickel (solid not plaited) and will either be the type that dont have heads on them so they can be pulled through the breast when done or I will nail them into a surface that wont coat the nail with any contaminants when the nails come out such as white nylon (or PTFE) sheet as these materials move out of the way of the nail rater than splintering.

I would be interested to know how you got the nails out of the breast/wood?

Status: offline 		I must say this is quite interesting and the thoughts of my scrotum being nailed to a plank of wood has me cringing! This is definitely something I'd have to do much research on before wanting to experience.

Really, I mean, I don't want to judge or anything, but do you REALLY want to fucking take nails to your flesh? I mean, even if it causes some sort of sexual arousal, is it worth the permanent damage?

I did a nailing for many to see a few years ago.  I used 16 penny nails, 6 of them through the scrotum, and into a block of wood.  I had the nails autoclaved, used bacitracin on the wood and the scrotum before driving the nails through. And pulled them back out using the claw of the hammer.  I had a bolt cutters handy just in case, but wanted to avoid that because the bolt cutters would not leave a  "clean cut" on the nail and there would be a chance of tearing the skin if I had to pull the scrotum up over it.
 
What I found challenging about this scene was learning to drive a nail without that initial "tap" on the head before hitting it hard enough to drive it through the skin.  It took a little practice. 
 
It was a very fun scene, my sub had to masturbate and cum before I pulled the nails out, being nailed to a wood block, or maybe it was the pain, that messed with his head, but it took him a little longer than I thought it would.  And since I had kept him in chastity for 2 weeks prior to the scene, I thought it would be even quicker.  Oh well, it was fun watching him struggle to please me.
 
Breasts, I think, would be a different animal altogether with the limited amount of loose skin.  Testicles have all that loose and useless skin around them which makes the use of large nails quite easy.   Not too much to worry about as far as masses of flesh inside them like breasts.  
 
Two hours after the scene was over, there was no sign of entry or exit of 3 of the nails, and the next day it was impossible to determine that anything at all had been done to them.  There was also very little blood  less than a teaspoon on the wood, and virtually none coming from the piercing sites.
 
I am so happy to read that others enjoy this type of play.  Thank you for sharing your experience, I hope to read more.

When I first read MM's reply I was gonna say all the things you just did Tress.....since you already took care of those, let me just add:
 
MM, you are very young, and most likely have little to no experience.....you will find things that were once limits, sometimes change over time.  Seriously, did you think that the first time I ever played I nailed someone down to a plank?  Keep an open mind, it will help, in BDSM, and in life in general.

Aside from everyone's else's advice, I do recommend that you look at the nail under a magnifying glass and if there are burrs, file them down before the sterilizing process.  Some nails are great, others have tiny flaws that can tear the skin in ways that you don't want.  Also, a sharp nail is a GOOD nail!

Status: offline 		This is something I would pass on as I do not allow permanent damage or scarring ,so this is a hard limit for me.If you are not afraid of either than move up to the bigger nails but know that you will most likely have permanent scars after.I would also make sure everything is sterile

i have to admit that being nailed is a hard limit for me and i can't say i will never change my mind as i grow in the lifestyle , and i am interested in learning and seing those type of scenes. i am a very curious person and i just enjoy reading about others kinks.
