I'd just like to point out that the female immune system performs considerably better than the male one. The most likely cause of this is that immunity can be impeded by good old testosterone.

This means that men suffer more from viral infections. So a cold that seems like nothing to a woman will cause an awful lot more suffering for a man.

MsFlutter -> RE: Big Baby? ;-) (12/31/2008 3:35:49 PM)

I prefer to be left alone when I'm under the weather. The men I know range from ' its just a little cold' to 'I'll be dead tomorrow, I just know it'. While some won't admit it, few of them mind some baby-ing when they feel yucky.

I've been spared nursing a sick male for a bit but it was well-received when I:

1) warmed his jammies/comfy clothes in the dryer
2) stuck a Sudafed Shower Soother in his shower and let him breathe the vapors
3) put a bag of cough drops, a box of tissues, a bottle of nasal spray and a small trashbasket next to the couch/chair
4) prepared a mug of beef soup and a steady supply of water/ginger ale/juice
5) handed him the remote and left him alone til half-time :)

No, MasterK is not "a big baby" when he's sick. Like me, he wants to be left alone to recuperate. He doesn't want to risk giving me a cold if he has one, nor does he want to catch one from me if I do. We each stay on our separate sides of the Hudson River if we're contagious.

MRandme -> RE: Big Baby? ;-) (12/31/2008 3:56:12 PM)

When i am sick, i dream of having someone fetch my hot tea, make me soup, cuddle me while i feel icky. Since i live with my 11 year old and my 18 year old, it doesn't happen. Instead i generally get to work no matter how i feel, and fetch and cook for myself.

Master generally works no matter how He feels. i know it's bad if He says He stayed in bed. But He doesn't complain too much. We are both stoics.

Lockit -> RE: Big Baby? ;-) (12/31/2008 4:14:06 PM)

I nursed him through a broken back... moved the household by myself at seven months pg and took care of his every need.  Very sad case... even before with a cold so I take very good care of the guy. It was a broken back after all!

I get sick at the end of that care and move and pg and am confined to bed.  I get hungry, I get bread.  After um I was so sick I nearly died.  I crawl to kitchen to get a bottle while he lays there.

He got fired.  LOL...

I am no baby, leave me alone... check on me every couple of hours and bring me drinks and food... not bread... and it's all good.  But I do tend to take very good care of those who are ill.

Jeptha -> RE: Big Baby? ;-) (12/31/2008 6:38:02 PM)

I don't mind being sick.

It gives me perfect leave to lounge about or do whatever I please without feeling that I'm shirking my responsibility to myself to be productive.
And I get to take the day off work.

Mostly though, it's a holiday from goal setting and striving, giving way to perfect in-the-moment lounging with no thought about tomorrow.

And ironically, it often ends up being a more productive time because I occupy myself with whatever needs doing around the house that I hadn't previously made time for.

Plus - I rarely get too sick, and the cold drugs take care of the uncomfortable symptoms pretty well usually.

YourhandMyAss -> RE: Big Baby? ;-) (12/31/2008 9:28:52 PM)

No, I don't have to do anything extra special, but then I am like a concerned mommy cub over everything that ails him usually. . I am far more concerned about some of his injuries and illnesses than he ever is.

He is more inclined though to request I get him things, like could I bring our meal to the bedroom instead of him going to get it when normally he'll go and get it himself. Or would I mind going and getting the cough stuff.  But if he's coughing I am the one to insist he takes the stuff.

When I am sick I want to be doted on. Feed me make sure I am warm, make sure my blankies are not tangled and my stuffed toy is in easy reach. Specially if he's the one who made me sick.

No, this isn't a thread about adult babies.  [;)]

So my Master has a little head cold.  He texts me yesterday that He was feeling bummy, so I offered to make Him some soup.  His response was, "no, it's just a cough and I'll be fine."  Well alrighty then.  So I go about my day to day putterings, grocery shopping, cleaning, cooking.

Well later in the evening I get an email from Him wondering where I've been and why haven't I answered my phone/texts.  I had left my phone in the bottom of my purse and hadn't heard it ring.  So I explained and asked if He needed something.  He says "You know I'm a big baby when I'm sick and I need some nurturing."  [8|]

He went from "It's just a cough, I'll be fine, to I'm sick and need some nurturing."  LOL!

{sweeping generalization alert}
Anyway, so I was thinking that every guy I've ever known, including my Dad, is the biggest baby when they get sick, even if it's just a little blah sick.

For the s-types out there with male doms, are they big babies when they get sick?  Do you have to do anything extra special to take care of 'em during this time? [:D]

What about male s-types?  Are you a big baby when you're sick?  I just wondered if being submissive and/or service oriented might make a difference.

And with that thought, what about the dominant females?  Are you a big baby when you're sick?

When I'm sick, I just like to be left alone..... although I wouldn't be opposed to having someone fix me a feel-good-in-your-tummy meal.  I just don't like being doted on.

*Final note - this is a intended to be a light-hearted thread in light of the many serious ones of late, not a complaint about my Master or a man-bashing thread, etc etc etc....

p.s. - He just sent me a text to be at His house at 10:30 with cherry cough drops and Coke Zeros.  LOL!

califsue -> RE: Big Baby? ;-) (12/31/2008 9:36:03 PM)

Without reading all the replies...I think men are big babies...LOL

Like you BR...I would rather be left alone....not doted on when I am sick.

I have to say that my "type" has always been the annoying ones who refuse to admit their sickness and push too hard to ignore it or pretend they are over it.

Yea i tend to be like that. Once i almost drove off a damn mountain in Pa trying to work thru a bad flu. I drove from Indianapolis to Du Bois Pa before i had to stop. The will was there but the body was not.

I had an ex once ask me why i never seemed to get sick. I told her that i did get sick like anybody else. But i had stuff to do before i got sick, stuff to do while and after. I can be sick with a cold, i just can't let it stop me. But i give the flu a little more respect.

And no doctors. Well maybe the coroner some day but thats it. (6 hour wait just to tell you to drink fluids and rest)

YourhandMyAss -> RE: Big Baby? ;-) (12/31/2008 9:54:20 PM)

Plus, most the time, when you go to the doctor when sick, you just spread your germs around and infect most the people there with your germs.

You're going to the wrong doctor if it's taking 6 hours to be seen though. Unless you have no insurance and have to go to the ER or a walk in, then long long looooooooooooong waits are common.

Lies, lies all of it.[:'(]

After conferring with the U.S. chapter of the International Mens Club we conclude that we like number 5 and recommend this practice across the land.

My MasterDaddy was a bit of a whiner when he got sick but Daddy D does not complain.

LOL!   Ms. Flutter's list is a good one.

My poor Master went to work sick today, with fever.  He's a firefighter and they were shorthanded.  Plus, even if He can be a big baby when He's sick, He never misses work.

I don't mind boo booing Him, and I'm very nurturing so it's not a problem.  Although that man-flu video is still giving me giggles. [:D]
