angelikaJ -> the new ads and TOS (12/31/2008 10:16:50 AM)

Someone mentioned this to me and I don't know if other people have an issue...OR not.

If explicit photos are against TOS, does anyone have an issue with the explicit nature of some of the new advertisments (which are found on the same page as our profiles)...do you see it an an inconsistency?

LadyHibiscus -> RE: the new ads and TOS (12/31/2008 10:20:30 AM)

Yes, I do find it inconsistent, and I don't like the ads, since the family comes and goes in the room where the computer is and when harmless text is surrounded by questionable photos...  it's good that I can hit the minimize key quickly.

I understand that ads are necessary to keep this site free to us, and I barely glance at the things anymore.  I also have no desire to post explicit photos of myself on the internets, or to look at someone else's, so I can't say that my personal style is cramped!

PanthersMom -> RE: the new ads and TOS (12/31/2008 10:28:48 AM)

i don't like the explicit ads either for the same reason.  my computer is in the main area of the house so we have people in and out all the time.  maybe a little less exposure on the models, while still conveying the necessary information, would be an acceptable compromise.  [sm=2cents.gif]

Nice idea, PM, but it's those beaver shots that bring in the paying customers!  [&:]  Too bad there isn't Banner Blocker for those of us who don't live alone!

Truly, I am glad the TOS are as they are.  Have you seen some of those pics on alt?  skeeeeeeery! <shudder>

angelikaJ -> RE: the new ads and TOS (12/31/2008 10:33:45 AM)

If they are going to allow explicit advertisements, which are visible...do you think they should allow explicit photographs (which you have to opt to open)?

CalifChick -> RE: the new ads and TOS (12/31/2008 10:36:53 AM)

We go thru this every so often.  The paid ads comply with the laws regarding recordkeeping requirements (just click on "18 USC 2257" under the ads for the link).  It is too onerous for the site to keep those same records on all the users.  Other sites choose to do it differently.

LumusandtheLady -> RE: the new ads and TOS (12/31/2008 10:48:41 AM)

Part of me wants to say, what if members could provide code to the admins to make the site "norm-friendly" [ie an option to block all images ] for nosy nellies?

Then I remember...this can [theoretically] be done directly through every known browser.  On IE for example, it's just Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced -> uncheck "show pictures" in the Multimedia section.  At least, that's what it is for me, although the IE version here is older [Version 6.0.2800.1106].

That's inconvenient but it prevents monkeying with site code [which is as likely to introduce bugs as fix them if any VB is involved, or cause horrid site delays as maintenance is undertaken].

Maybe I'm remembering wrong.  Let me know if I am.

I have fast fingers, too, but such is life.

Although now that I read that Hib has no desire to post explicit photos of herself on the net, I might just have to leave CM forever.

MarksFantasyGirl -> RE: the new ads and TOS (12/31/2008 1:38:56 PM)

I am only on CM when everyone else is either away or in bed, so I don't really have much problem with it.  However, my stepdad is nosey, and will see what kind of sites I am on.  And if he were to click the right thing on the right day when I haven't cleared my browsing history, he will see those pics that think I'm in porn sites.  He gets mad about that.  I think he's jealous because He's not ALLOWD to look at porn!  HAHAHAHA!

KatyLied -> RE: the new ads and TOS (12/31/2008 1:40:00 PM)

You can ad-block the pictures.

MarksFantasyGirl -> RE: the new ads and TOS (12/31/2008 1:45:17 PM)

I'd rather watch Him get mad at me! lol It's fun to watch! lol

Do you think that we should have the same opportunity as the advertisers to post explicit photos?

lronitulstahp -> RE: the new ads and TOS (1/1/2009 7:19:33 AM)

Well...[image]http://www.collarchat.com/micons/m21.gif[/image]i think i will just ask Admin for a full refund...that's what i'll do!!! Get all the money i've paid for CM back, and then join another site....

....as an aside....somebody must have some killer pics they want to show off*goes to perv OP's profile...* "profile not found"....dammit!!! *unplugs Hitachi*

Pay attention, Cali just explained this to you.

The advertisers have the paperwork to back up their models, and paid a fee to be featured. You? Not so much. End of story.

angelikaJ -> RE: the new ads and TOS (1/1/2009 7:37:45 AM)

I am not bitching about it... I am asking what people think/feel...

LadyEllen -> RE: the new ads and TOS (1/1/2009 7:59:32 AM)

The new "violent pornography" law comes into effect in the UK at the end of January; possession (which includes downloading) of "extreme images" is an offence. There is little doubt that some of the ads - particularly the one of the lady in a rapidly filling tank of water - would be more than enough to breach the law and put UK members on the sex offenders register, alongside some whose deeds may not here be mentioned and with whom such CM offenders will undoubtedly be confused by the public and media as well as friends, family, neighbours and employers.

It would be nice if CM could adjust what advertising we in the UK see, but this may be a technical nightmare to sort out, as well as a cave in to poorly drafted and ill considered legislation; unless one takes a cynical view of what its actually about.

I blame government censorship for this lack of profile. It's the nanny state all over again.[8|]

It doesn't matter what people think or feel.  The policy is not changing.

If you can Meet all the requirements for the law in the US then you can..... JUST Not on this site because the Owners of this site don't want to be responsible for making sure you do what you have to do to keep it Legal.

What you aren't getting is that the AD's are from Companies who meet the legal requirements and theose AD's HELP to keep CollarMe Running and FREE for us. Your Profile is not an AD and it isn't making money for the Site so to answer your question. NO I do not think people who use the site should be allowed to do that. If you want to post sexually explicit photos then go over to FetLife.com you can post what you want there.

The think is the Owners of the site get to do what they want because they own the site and keep it free for you, if they charged you then the argument would be more Valid but as it stands this site is FREE and if you do not like what is on it then do what I do. ONLY Log into CollarChat which will avoid the ad's completely, or go to another site.

Angelika this is not directed toward you personally but toward the topic being discussed.

Steel
