As others have said.........the laws governing a veterinary practice and a medical practice are two entirely different ....animals.[;)] In addition, I have also had a medical doctor prescribe vitamins and minerals. Both times, when I was pregnant. Might have been a possiblitity other times, if I actually went to see a doctor more than once a decade and usually when a body part was in danger due to something stupid I have done. Okay, the occasional physical, kicking and screaming. As far as veterinarians being the be all and end all. just like any profession, there are fantastic ones, mediocre ones, and some I wouldn't take a rat to............even after it had been dead for 6 months. They are THAT BAD! Those are usually some of the most expensive also. I've had animals my entire life and experienced a variety of vet care. I've even used meds for animals to treat human ailments. (you know that liquid pink antibiotic........same shit just one helluva lot less expensive on the animal side). As others said, you don't like your doctor, see a different one. You are, after all, their customer. Don't be intimidated by the arrogance that often comes with a PhD. Just keep demanding and pushing or move on.

I am just going to be picky and compare our vet vs about any physical health dr. We use a stickly feline vet office. They are amazing. Through Pye's very difficult problems they were they went above and beyond approved care. Approved meaning certain tests and stuff as he was nearing the end. Our favorite Vet saved his life, even after he thougth there was no hope when the pancreas first failed. Pye went on to live 1 1/2 year more of quality life before losing him. The vet assistant is our Angel Michael (btw one cant help but get a bit wet just looking at him LOL) knew that since his care was massivly expensive would stuff needles, extra meds ect an not but it in the charts We also had his cell phone in case Pye collapsed in the middle of the night so that Pye would got to the Rainbow Bridge with familiar surroundings. Most of the people that work there foster cats, will come to your home and take care of the cats if someone had to go out of town. I cannot praise them enough and their care will be stamped in my brain forever. Physical doctors, if like going the motions. The shove as many people through as fast as they can. With my anxiety disorder I often get labeled as a drug seeker because of the medications I take, and how dare I ask for relief for a chronic problem due to an auto accident whch caused pn going muscle spasmsn. I have been out and out called a drug seaker which its belittling. If I could see a vet, I think the quality of care would be more understanding. I have not met a dr yet except one long ago, that would not push me out of the office asap and not even give me chances address all probles. I generally walk out in a full blown panic attack. Now keep in mind this just based on my experience. To met this vet beats the hello out of any "dr" Just my 2 cents

I think some people care more about animals then they do about people. They wouldnt "save the children" and they'ld pass a bum on the street. Some would fight and give their last dollars to an animal cause but not lift a finger for a human.

The quality of companionship some of us get from our pets is far superiour than that of many human beings.......... so it is no wonder. I would much rather spend my time in the company of animals than that of most people I meet.

Amos - who ordinarily disappears when OTHER HOOMANS are in the house - was making nice with him.. Gracious actually did the nose tapping thing to wake him up the other morning (despite the fact that I was right there). Furbabies ROCK!

I of course ignored that and often if I meet eyes with them will have a small chat and little donation it matter not to me what they use it for. Often they are there due to mental illness or other things and should not be treated in any lesser a way than a person walking past them. I was waiting at Union Station once for the normal long layover for the train. A young man was sitting looking desolute so I stopped to talk to him. His g/f kicked him out of her apt and he had no way to get back to where he needed to go because he didnt have enough cash to get there. I said come on, took him to the ticket booth got his ticket and chatted with him till his train loaded. I think kindness should go toward any person or creature.

I know very much about animals and had a father and son team. One for 11 years, the other for 15. They were wonderful but hard work. They died within 4 months of each other. There is no room for showing my submission to a pet or i am a goner. i had animals my whole life. But they no way compare to the love for my child or the challenge of stimulating conversation with people. But then again, I am an extrovert. i am intuitive and understand animals and appreciate them. I am going through a phase that I am glad I am not the caretaker at this point. Well except for my upstairs neighbor. Take care of them when she goes out of town for a few days. i help her out with her dog and cat. I get the dose I need without the full responsibility.

As I said before a human Doctor in the USA does not have any requirement to advise you how to be or to help you be at your BEST health, none at all. They can legally (not talking about morally) leave you in a coma and profit from it though they could bring you out of it as it is not harming you (though nor is it helping you). They prefer you functionally ill where you can earn enough money to keep paying them and need to keep seeing them. A vet is required to tell an animal's owner how to keep the animal in BEST health or be charged with neglect.

No, Doctors requirements are far more stringent-in many cases Vets don't even maintain the minimal sterility.

My daughter has taken her horse with her to college. The vet down here is fantastic. She's tried three different ones up there and isn't happy with any of them. I go to a family practice so if it's an emergency I never know who may be looking up my sinuses. I've had great doctors and bad ones. And this from the same office. Just in case you didn't know it, vets and MDs are people. And like every other kind of people, they come in all shapes and sizes and different degrees of caring. One thing that will help you, with either vets or doctors is to be a better patient. Come in with a list of symptoms, when it started, what else you have been tested for etc. Be knowledgable about any diagnosed illness, be knowledgable about yourself, and be to the point. Don't waste their time.

Sterility is not all it is cracked up to be, but, yes vets need to follow sterility standards. We have eliminated most all beneficial bacteria from our lives and have brought on many of our own illnesses. Vets are not so concerned with killing beneficial bacteria. If around sickness then they sterilize all in contact after. Look how "STERILE" Hospitals are supposed to be, look at how many hospital born illnesses and infections their are. Look at how many in the hospital per capita get infections from others. Look at the conditions a vet works in, how many transfered illnesses per capita to other animals are caused by vets? Doctors and Hospitals spread far more diseases per capita than Vets.
