By law in the United States of America is human food required to be as healthy as pet/animal food?

Aszhrae -> RE: Homan Diet vs pet/animal diet (12/31/2008 2:45:01 PM)

Pet food is everything not fit for human consumption with additional supplements and strong smell. It has absolutely no taste whatsoever (Alpo) [:'(]

Daddysredhead -> RE: Human Diet vs pet/animal diet (12/31/2008 7:54:33 PM)

I feed the fish, beta fish pellets.

I feed the turtle, turtle pellets.

I feed the hamster, hamster food.

I feed the cat, dry cat food.

The first two could pass for cupcake sprinkles.

The third could pass for trail mix.

The cat food looks like ew.

If you wanna eat that stuff, go ahead.

*nomnom* anyone?  [8|]

I don't know a lot about it but BARF diets, and yeah barf is an acronym but I can't remember for what it stands, I have heard, from a show on it, that  some of The meat is nice quality. I dunno for sure I don't do raw or barf diets for our dogs.

Actually by law pet food must be 100% what the pet needs for best health, human food is not required to be good for you at all, just to be edible.

K you don't get your best health from the scrapings of the slaughterhouse floor.

Just sayin.

Did you have a point in all of this?

ResidentSadist -> RE: Human Diet vs pet/animal diet (12/31/2008 10:50:41 PM)

According to a butcher friend of mine, she says the USDA regulations for pet food have higher quality restrictions than human food.  For example, there are less insect parts allowed in pet food.  She says because animals can’t lobby for themselves, restrictions are set higher for the animals because they have no voice in the lobby and can’t make a consumer’s choice.

Mosquito wings and cockroach legs aren’t exactly unhealthy so I have no idea if this makes pet food healthier but, it certainly is cleaner than people food.

polyspride -> RE: Human Diet vs pet/animal diet (1/29/2009 7:42:16 PM)

The issue to me is more the vitamin and mineral content, animal foods are required to have the optimum for maximum best health, no such regulations for human foods and our only advice from the government is a minimum daily requirement to keep you out of a coma no recommendations fro maximum best health.

You realize that nutritional values for animal foods are not well researched?  Do you realize that those that do the research are the pet food companies whose existence is to make money off of you?  Have you read the bags of dog food?  Have you seen the ingredients?  Where it comes from?  Have you seen the fact that a huge portion of whats in it is fillers and that most of the nutrition comes from vitamins and minerals that have to be added?  Do you realize that most dog foods use excessive heat in the process which often leads many of those vitamins and minerals to loose there effectiveness?

You're concepts on minimum requirements are also.. incorrect.  Daily values are not the fine line between a coma.. just want you need to not be deficient. Humans also have the right to choose... free will.  Companies make the products because consumers buy them.  If people didn't want or buy the crappy products they wouldn't exist.

polyspride -> RE: Homan Diet vs pet/animal diet (2/3/2009 4:35:17 AM)

Sorry to inform you but as they have been allowed to kill animals in the interest in finding out minimum daily requirements they know more about the minimums for animals than humans. Human experiments were mostly done on volunteer prisoners taken down in nutrient intake until they showed symptoms. The LAW requires that the foods for animals be optimized for BEST health. They are more nutritionally complete for the animal than human food is required to be for humans. I am not talking quality just nutritional quantity. There is no nutrient requirement for human foods, hence all the junk foods that are legal. When the junk food had addictive poisons like white sugar or high fructose corn syrup it is not free will it is addiction, or are you saying alcoholics have free will to stop drinking? BTW. Not being deficient is not the same as optimized health.

Lynnxz -> RE: Homan Diet vs pet/animal diet (2/3/2009 5:44:06 AM)

Are you just making this up as you go along?

polyspride -> RE: Homan Diet vs pet/animal diet (2/12/2009 3:49:51 PM)

Not at all, I am fascinated at the fact people think the Dr's and Lawyers that run the country care if the average John/Jane Doe are healthy. It is something most take for granted, that the government cares about it's citizens health. People pushed the animal protection laws through the House and Senate. No one has pushed laws for human health laws as all assume the laws exist.
It is actually illegal for a licensed Doctor to tell you a vitamin or mineral can cure or treat any illness, but, they give Vitamin C for scurvy, Potassium for heart/blood issues, Niacin for cholesterol and triglycerides, Vitamin D and Calcium for osteoporosis, but remember vitamins and minerals by government standards do not cure anything.

Due to human lobbying on behalf of animals they (if fed correctly by their owners) are fed better than their owners. Human foods are grown in depleted soil so micro nutrients not needed for the plant but that would be absorbed and in the human diet are missing. meats are full of artificial chemicals, hormones, antibiotics, etc. Junk food is legal. Junk food is not recommended for pets in fact you are told by experts not to give it to them, so it is good for us and recommended to us?

I am a Healer and study the art of healing. I see the contradictions in the governments policies.

Lynnxz -> RE: Homan Diet vs pet/animal diet (2/12/2009 3:55:37 PM)

When's the last time your doctor told you to go hog out on ben & jerries and BBQ?

Why do you think that the meat that we eat, is worse than the meat that goes into animal food? Can you back up your theory that pet food makers actually go out of their way to purchase hormone free/steriod free meats?

Of course there's a recomended diet for animals, by vets, for their owners to follow. A human nutritionist will tell you to put down the snickers and pick up a banana, doesn't mean everyone does it.

I think you need to step away from the healing herbs and take a look at what you are claiming.

Whatever.

DesFIP -> RE: Human Diet vs pet/animal diet (2/12/2009 5:22:47 PM)

Didn't you go on this rant just a couple of weeks ago? I know I remember another thread you started on the same subject. Are you hoping to get different responses this time?

Not all people flourish on the same exact diet. Neither do all animals. So announcing animal food is optimal makes no sense. Pregnant mares require alfalfa hay, geldings will not flourish on that.

MissIsis -> RE: Homan Diet vs pet/animal diet (2/12/2009 5:29:56 PM)

BARF stands for bones and raw food.  Actually, from the research I have done on what is supposed to be optimal food for a pets health, I have found very little that is in agreement from the so called professionals or pet food companies.  I could find no agreed upon standards as to what is optimal for them.  I try not to feed my dog or cats the commercial garbage that passes for pet food.
