CFslaves2 -> Nocternal Chickens & Other Animal Curiousities (1/2/2009 3:58:06 AM)

Our chickens started roosting in the garage when it got cold... less than convient, and we normally leave the light on in there. The chickens adapted. They now wait on the garage door tracts by the lights, waiting on bugs to come to them... This really wouldn't be so bad other than lots of chicken poop in the garage and the rooster crowing every hour, on the hour, all night long...

So does anyone else have an animal story of interest?

we had and out of season birth of a calf. It was January and really cold...too cold for the newborn to survive. We had no clue the cow was expecting so she was in the pasture that night. We recieved a call from a neighbor who lives about three farms down the road. He was on his way home and found the calf in the middle of the road, freezing. He bundled her up and took her home in his pickup.
A mommy cow never, ever leaves her baby..ever! The only thing we could think of is she pushed the baby under the fence and out onto the road for help.

did the calf make it, i hope?

yes!! We picked her up and returned her to her amazing mommy, and kept them both in the barn for a few days.
