SilverStream0523 -> A question about shaving (1/3/2006 6:40:22 AM)

Okay, I know that there are lots out there that shave themselves between their thighs. And I know that there are others that get razor rash. I'm one of those. I always shave myself in the shower with the water running over me to keep that area nice and wet. Then shave. But I always, without fail, get razor rash and it's VERY uncomfortable about 3 hours to a day after I shave and it stays for about almost a week as the hair starts to grow back in. Can anyone tell me if there's a certain way that would make it better?

Thank you all very much,

~ Silver ~

I use all of the bikini zone products. The shave gel and the after shave antiseptic. It's not perfect, but it helps.

Oddly enough I've found that a thick leave in conditioner helps.

I don't shave, I trim. I also do not require anyone to shave for me, just to keep it trim and tidy. A shaved pussy doesn't actually creep me out, but I have no problem with a more adult look either.

That said, over the years the women I have been with that do shave have recommended the products geared towards black american consumers (to avoid stubble) and the veet product line.

gingersnap7789 -> RE: A question about shaving (1/3/2006 7:25:32 AM)

Buy an expensive razor too. It makes all the difference.

My Sub prefers Nair,......... followed by one of the scented moisturizing oils.

SelkiePet1 -> RE: A question about shaving (1/3/2006 8:56:07 AM)

the most important thing - a good razer! Don't go for a woman's but a man's triple blade like a Mach 3. I have ultra sensitive skin but this works - I also use a shaving cream for ultra sensitive skin sparingly - after time it gets easier and better - trick is to make sure you have a good sharp blade, and don't be afraid to hold the skin out so you get closer ....

foxglove716 -> RE: A question about shaving (1/3/2006 10:43:40 AM)

You shave and it lasts for a week? You *must* send one of your razors this way! I personally hate shaving. I *hate* it. Waxing, on the other hand, thats for me. I like to do it myself, its like a personal ritual. It lasts longer than shaving and I dont think its as uncomfortable. But if shaving is your thing, heres my advice. Take a bath beforehand. It will soften up the hair and make it easier to shave. When you are shaving, rinse your razor in lukewarm water. After its done wash well with antibacterial soap, and then apply a layer of neosporin. Ive found that wearing tight fitting panties helps with irritation too.

caitlyn -> RE: A question about shaving (1/3/2006 11:36:37 AM)

Body sugar done by a professional is the best, in my opinion. Take three Advil and get mildly to moderately intoxicated before you go. [;)]

MHOO314 -> RE: A question about shaving (1/3/2006 12:34:33 PM)

Well here is My secret, men who get great shaves get them in a barbershop after a steaming towel has been applied for several minutes--the same applies for that shaving, soaking in steaming hot water, or hot water open the pours and allows for a deeper, closer cut (rule number 1-- so not in a shower, do it in a hot bath)---the men with the smoothest faces, shave daily ( rule number 2 shave every other day at a maximum, the longer we wait the tougher the hair and we start all over again)--the smoothest skin has moisturizers applied daily ( rule number 3, use a great soap --there are some great body washes with Shea butter now and everyday moisturize with either a cocoa butter product or shea butter base product)

And oh btw---neither of those mentioned is toxic to any ones mouth found licking or kissing in that area, in fact they are both quite pleasant---

good luck.

windchymes -> RE: A question about shaving (1/3/2006 12:58:55 PM)

I've found that the Nair for bikini areas works great. Burns a little on the mucus membrane area, but it's very temporary. It doesn't last as long as waxing, but it's a lot cheaper.

HoosierScorpio -> RE: A question about shaving (1/3/2006 1:12:47 PM)

Another thing to think about depending what you are using you could be allergic to the shaving cream you are using. Since that area is nice and sensitive when you shaving it could be adding to your problem. Also try use a new razor blade every time and see if that will help with things. HoosierScorpio

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: A question about shaving (1/3/2006 1:20:50 PM)

Posted this back in March on the general forum under the "shaving" topic.

OK I figure I will go ahead and put my experience up in here.

I have thick dark hair generally. I didn't shave at all until I got into bdsm actually, I never saw the point in it. Of course, I always wore jeans and sweats so it didn't matter what anyone saw or thought. Since most of my partners have preferred bare, I've gone through lots of stages on this.

Shaving:

The good part about shaving is that it's easy to do, easily accessible, fairly painless, quick and cheap
The bad part is that it takes technique, doesn't last long and can easily lead to yucky bumps and cuts

Technique?
Take a shower or bath first. The heat will open the pores and allow the blade to cut deeper.
Get in a good position for access. Generally, I sit on the edge of the tub and spread wide.
I use hair conditioner for shaving. It softens the hair more than shaving cream, and it tends to be clear so you can see through it when shaving.
I first stroke WITH the grain, always holding the skin tight with the other hand. I use strokes of about 1-2 inches, clean the blade, then another stroke. Being left-handed I start on the right, work over the mons, then do each labia.
Once I've gotten the first round down, I condition again and then work AGAINST the grain, again pulling the skin tight, taking slower and longer strokes. This will help clear nubs left from the first pass and leaves a smoother finish.
Now that you've gotten the hair clean, take care of the skin! Exfoliate the area with either a cleanser, a scrubber, a mask, whatever you prefer. This will slough off the dead skin and leave the pores free to breath and less likely to get infected.
A lot of people like using lotion with vitamin E to soften the skin and make it likely to heal fine. Some people can go a few days without needing to shave, for me hair is definitely noticeable on the 2nd day.
Try and take care of the skin, keep dry.

Depilatories:

These are nice because they are very low work, easily accessible, cheap and create a fairly smooth look
The drawbacks can be bad skin reactions/burning, the smell and for thick hair it doesn't always work

Simply put- you spread it over the skin, waiting the appropriate amount of time and then wipe it off. ALWAYS do a skin test first on a less sensitive part or a small bit of your pubic area first to make sure you won't react badly to the chemicals. Be careful with the skin afterwards.

Pluckers/Epiladies/Threading:

These are like waxing but do small bits at once rather than large strips. They are fairly accessible. They do pull the hair out by the root so it lasts longer. Unfortunately they tend to be very painful. For those who don't know threading, it's essentially looping threads around the individual hairs and pulling them all out at once. It's like a zipper for hair. And it takes longer than some other methods.

Plucking you can obviously do on your own, simply pulling out one by one. Some hair may break instead of pulling out by the root but that's normal. Plucking reduces skin damage as well.

Sugaring/Waxing

In the pro world known as a "Brazilian" or waxing off all or almost all of one's pubic hair, or one can try sugaring instead of the wax. This is messier, longer, more expensive if you go to a pro (and I DO recommend going to a pro). It also lasts much longer and over time leads to slower/less growth overall. As well, when the hair grows back, it is finer without the rough stubble feeling. It's not as accessible as shaving and at-home methods as you have to find a place that offers this service.

Also, many people have issues with new women being so close and touching their pubic area. Don't be. They are pros and do it a lot, you aren't that amazing to them. You should get most of the stickiness off before you leave the appointment, but some might remaind. As well, this does rip off the first layer of skin as well so no showering or lots of sun exposure for a day or so afterwards.

Maintenence:

Ingrown hairs and infected pores are inevitable. Some people get them more than others. You can reduce the chance of this by keeping the area very clean, possible even swabbing with alcohol, and regularly scrubbing with a loofah to reduce the dead skin accumulation. There are some creams and such out there which can help break down the bacteria and reduce red bumps so try them and see what works for you. Ingrowns are painful but not damaging and will eventually work their way out.

The things we do just to lose hair...

IrishMist -> RE: A question about shaving (1/3/2006 1:54:21 PM)

Baby oil works wonders. Use it before, during and after to keep the area soft. Also, as suggested, make sure you have a really good razor

Passion357 -> RE: A question about shaving (1/3/2006 2:08:21 PM)

This is just my opinion, but I would say your first mistake is shaving in the shower. You have the right idea (the water running over it), but you need to soak.
Shave in the tub. Soak the hair, and the area in warm water. The trick is after you shave. Apply a medium coat (not too little, not too much) of Baby Oil. Rub it in a bit, do not attempt to "dry" it. Put on tight fitting panties, that are not too big. You don't want them to rub the crease joining your leg and "area". Walk lightly, at first, get used to the feel. After you get the hang of it, your good to go!

~If you have big inner thighs, like me, there is not much you can do about the razor burn on them, other than tone them up, or wear shorts or pants that keep them from rubbing together when you walk.~

Passion357 -> RE: A question about shaving (1/3/2006 2:14:51 PM)

Oops I did notice one mistake made, by most of us responding. We don't know your skin type! LOL That has a lot to do with rather or not you should use baby oil, lotion, etc, or dry, dry, dry. That will be completely up to you to decide. If your skin down there is really oily, you may not need or want to use or oils or lotions. If it's too dry, you might want to. Tough call.

Ladies, could I please get some suggestions here? :-) I am curious what others think about the skin type issue...
