I have heard of and seen a glue used in hospitals thats of a eposy nature and secures skin so it never comes apart but I have yet to see any of this sold bootleg over the internet either in the us or outside. Claims is better and more permanent than superglue and once left on for a certain amount of time is unremoveable short of surgery would anyone know anthting about this. the hospital called it durabond but I have had no contacts showing the medical grade of this anywhere.

At work we have durabond. I think it is a brand name (related to loctite). IF you mean the stuff..they use to glue wounds with...well..it doesn't have to last that long..because the skin grows together again.

Like Dermabond or something? I don't think they've come out with something permanent yet, but it's possible I suppose. Like JustDarkness said, it's not going to stay on forever because your skin grows together and flakes off. I've used superglue several times to stick cuts and things back together though, works just fine.

There's a super glue thread going on right now over in Health & Safety..... I had my back operated on 3 years ago and they glued me back together, rather than use sutures or staples. It pretty much came off on its own, and they advised me to use only baby shampoo & soap until it did. And of course, by the time it did, about a week, I was healed up enough to not need it anymore. I would assume, being advised to use baby-strength soaps, that a harsher soap could dissove it, or at least weaken it.

Basic anatomy will show that this is just not possible. Skin is constantly regenerating itself and you lose billions of cells every day. As new cells are created at the bottom of the epidermis and rise to the top of the epidermis, the cells on top fall off, along with any glue that might be attached to those cells. Out of curiosity, what would you want to permanently glue to someone? Wouldn't body modifications like tatoos or piercings work just as well?

The glue they use at hospitals isn't permanent at all, it is simply like a super glue for skin. It lasts long enough to let the skin heal underneath. The problem with it in BDSM (in my humble experience) is the setting time. It takes a few minutes to set, and is very runny when you put it on. So it pools sometimes where you don't want it to, while missing where you did want it.

Dermabond is the best as far as staying on in stress areas. Endermil is another brand, not quite as good - in my humble opinion [:D]- however, when i ran a gouge into the heel of my hand, after swearing a bit and shaking blood everywhere, endermil is what i used to glue my hand up. Deep cut, healed in two weeks, and the scar is thinner than the regular creases in my hand. Great stuff!

Durabond makes a medical grade (guaranteed sterile) and a nuclear grade (guaranteed chloride and nickel free) All in all, it is cyanoacrylic... superglue. Superglue was originally designed for emergency dental repairs. And, EMTs soon found it was excellent for temporary sutures in a hurry. It is not permanent unless applied to bone. It is used to cement in replacement joints and orthopoedic pins. It will last on skin until the skin sloughs away in healing. You can seal a cut with superglue, but to glue suture without leaving a scar, go to the professionals with practice. Now if you want more permanent glue, none is more permanent than catalytic setting phenolic resin... epoxy. But, it is toxic to humans until polymerized. Stefan

However, if you have someone use dermabond or endermil that has used it before - there is a good chance the scar will be thinner because they HAVE used it before - they know what it is going to do, therefore, be able to make the edges approximate better.

Medics began using superglue during the Vietnam War is my recollection. But as everyone else says, it's only meant to last for a few days before the skin itself has begun to heal. I don't know of anything that would glue fingers together and last forever despite the outer layer of the skin sloughing off as it renews itself.

Sorry.. wrong terminology. Superglue was first MARKETED for emergency dental repair in 1964. At least that is the first it appeared in my mom's medical catalogs. In the 70's, Eastman 910 adhesive was a very very pricey specialty glue ($20 a tube). Then the patent ran out and you saw the infomercials with the guy hanging from his hard hat. Stefan

Dermabond and Indermil are the medical grade glues you are referring to. Indermil must be refrigerated and tends to set up a bit more quickly. ERs tend to go for the Indermil and other hospital departments the Dermabond. It's quite expensive.

Apparently another gotcha is "showering" & "runniness" & "refrigeration" considerations as witnessed by this description which advertises Dermabond by comparing the two cyanoacrylate glues as follows ... Dermabond: 2-octyl cyanoacrylate (8-carbon side-chain) Indermil: n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate (4-carbon side-chain) Dermabond: Patient may shower immediately Indermil: Patient may not shower for 48 hours Dermabond: Contains plasticizers for flexible bond and high wound-closure strength Indermil: No plasticizers for a lower wound-closure strength Dermabond: High viscosity formulation Indermil: Lower viscosity formulation Dermabond: Might not require bandage Indermil: Not water-resistant, water-resistant bandage required for first 48 hours Dermabond: No refrigeration required, 2-year shelf life Indermil: Refrigeration required, if refrigerated, shelf life of 2 years, if not refrigerated, shelf life of 4 weeks Given just this information, I'd suspect Dermabond to be more usable in D/s situations, if it's usable at all. ... YMMV
