Right, this poll will hopefully answer once and for all a theory I've held for a very long time - that a ball or other object thrown or otherwise propelled through the air will always hit a female in the head rather than a male, when the female is not participating in the activity for which the object is in motion and even where the female is the only female in a crowd.

Such objects can include sporting balls of all types and other objects such as snowballs. The mechanism at work (yet to be named but long observed) seems to function by way of some form of attraction which causes objects to home in on females whilst avoiding males.

To assist in this study, please indicate by your choice your gender and whether or not such objects have hit you in the head on more occasions than could normally be ascribed to chance.

I'm thinking it's just you, Lady E!

LadyEllen -> RE: gender and ballistics (1/3/2009 2:53:12 PM)

It could be of course - and it would explain my features too; but I am convinced that this is a phenomenon that does exist.

Doesn't happen in my world.  Well, except for that one very large beach umbrella on that island in the Bahamas that smacked me hard enough to cause a concussion.  Then when I got up to go get something for the headache I stubbed my toe & broke it.  But other than that, I'm sure it's never happened.  And you did say balls & sporting events, so I'm not sure this qualifies at all.  Never mind.

LadyEllen -> RE: gender and ballistics (1/3/2009 3:16:33 PM)

that counts too LB! the umbrella could have blown and hit anyone on that beach or no one at all - yet it careered into you!

chance? I dont think so...

That's very true, LadyE.  Plus there's that beach lounge that jumped out & smacked me in the toe!  That was clearly an assault.

I get divebombed by birds regularly... does that count LE?

SteelofUtah -> RE: gender and ballistics (1/3/2009 3:37:38 PM)

No I see what you are getting at.

No Matter what the Midget Throws it usually hits Andi in the head and not me.

The 20 to 30 minutes of Hysterical Laughter by Both me and andi is teaching the boy that throwing is okay when it is not but it's funny that we're playing go get with the boy and the next thing you know andi takes a Foam Block or a Rubber Ball to the head with such accuracy that we believe it hits the same spot ofher head usually every time.

Odd I will have to look into this theroy further.

Not sure on that one - birds could be said to have volition; perhaps another area for study?

LadyEllen -> RE: gender and ballistics (1/3/2009 4:00:33 PM)

Hmmm

So far we have no males who get hit, meaning that all male respondents so far dont get hit.

However, not all females get hit according to the results so far either; 43% do and 57% do not.

But the theory is holding up inasmuch as if anyone is going to be hit, it will be a female.

I'm quite certain that there must be a Murphy's Law covering this subject somewhere  [sm=bury.gif][sm=bury.gif]

Okies I chose the 'get hit lots' option, have had blood drawn and stitches from birds so I feel that it qualifies me.

OneMoreWaste -> RE: gender and ballistics (1/3/2009 6:10:58 PM)

I once got hit square in the eye with a piece of stale toast thrown at a Rocky Horror show, so I've gotta represent for guys getting hit.

DarkSteven -> RE: gender and ballistics (1/3/2009 6:52:14 PM)

Maybe we men duck better.

missturbation -> RE: gender and ballistics (1/3/2009 7:17:57 PM)

I'm with you on this one Lady E, it's always my head. The ashtray i stepped into the path off, the glass meant for someone else who ducked and it hit me. Have to say though things in the main tend to fall on my head rather than being thrown.

dreamofthemoon -> RE: gender and ballistics (1/3/2009 9:35:14 PM)

i don't tend to get hit regularly, unless i'm participating in a snowball fight, then there's a high possibility that i would.  And i haven't been in a snowball fight for some time.  *sigh*

For me, things tend to bite me.  For instance, irons and ironing boards.  Mom has one of those Swiss made ironing boards (ironing presses, i suppose) that well, sandwiches the piece of clothing/material between two ironing boards and the (top) metal board tends to get hot very quickly.  While i was still at home, i got bitten by that darned thing on more than one occasion. *rolls her eyes*

igor2003 -> RE: gender and ballistics (1/3/2009 10:14:44 PM)

It's just nature's way of keeping things in balance.  Women always get hit in the head, men always get hit in the crotch.

girlygurl -> RE: gender and ballistics (1/3/2009 10:17:52 PM)

I voted I get hit regularly.... Not too regularly but enough to wonder wtf! [8D]

cravesdom -> RE: gender and ballistics (1/4/2009 4:25:14 AM)

If I am at a soccer match, tennis match, basketball game, etc. I am more likely than not to get hit at least once if not several times before the match is over. And yes, usually in the head. Actually, now that I think about it, that explains a lot.
