I am a dominant man.

I am just that.

I am not dominant because of
any superiority on my part.

Not because I feel I am
more intelligent, or wiser.

I am not dominant because
of the strength or mass of my body.

I am not, nor would I want to be
dominant with all women.

Yet to you, I am Master.

I've found this particular poem used as a profile on several different web sites by many different Dominants. I am curious as to how many new submissives have read these words, and thinking they are the words of the Dominant in question, began a relationship with that Dominant. Am also curious as to how the relationship worked out.

Recently i got a note from a Dominant and when i looked at his profile, i found only the poem there.....no citation of the author....no saying that although these words are not his, he takes them to heart. When i questioned him about the poem, he explained that he'd run out of room to add more....as in author's name and what the poem means to him. I gave him suggestions as to how he could fit his own words into his profile, as in using a different or smaller font. However, he apparently decided that his own words would not work as well as the words of the poem.

I've also talked with 2 newbie submissives who began a relationship with Doms who had used this poem as a profile....thinking that the words were the Doms' own. In fact, one of the Dominants claims to have written the poem, and perhaps he really did. (shrugs) I've never been able to find Michael P on the internet. My research only shows that the poem first appeared in an Adult Sexuality forum provided by CompuServe.

Anyway, i did not continue writting to the Dominant who had this poem in his profile. He might be a wonderful man and a great Dominant. However, i question the...ummm....honesty of one who would infer (by lack of explanation and citation) that another's words were his own.

Ugh. It would be alright if they had stated that the piece belongs to another author, but I have a real problem with people who don't give credit where credit is due. Besides, there is something sexy about a man who is man enough to pass the credit to someone else.

I've seen it say, maybe a hundred or so times over the year's. More often than not it is given the credit it deserves. Yet, sometimes there is a scum ball around.

They lurk everywhere even here on collarme.
It is clearly a lack of integrity but many do not even know what the word truly means.

I agree with all of you. Use of words not one's own lacks creativity and integrity. I worry most about the newbie subs, those who have not read the poem before and are attracted to a Dom based upon this poem. I did a search on a short phrase from the poem and found a dozen Dominants who use it as their profile. Only two had the honesty to admit the poem was not their own words.

Camigirl...if you'd like to read the entire poem, you can find it at The Dominant Man although even this link states that the author is anonymous.

I am not a newbie but, it is a great poem. I would be really pissed if i got this and though it was his own words. I think if their profile is a lie what does that say about them in general.

there is currently an active thread in the general bdsm section by a dom who was asked to define himself and wondering if others have had the same experience. instead of answering the question, he posted the response of a friend.

i think a dominant - any dominant, male or female - should be able to covey who they are, what they, why they believe, AND, while quoting a poem or someone else's words is nice, they should certainly be able to articulate what they themselves think. Using other's words when you cannot find or do know know your own should mean that the dominant in question needs to figure it out - before looking for a partner. using another's words and not attributing authorship to another is plagerism - it is stealing, it is deceitful.

the thing about lying about one little thing is that is causes one to question the veracity of everything.
