"Man in Black" is one of my favorite songs.  It wasn't in the movie for some reason, but it is one of his best songs.  The house he grew up in is privately owned.  I don't understand why it hasn't been bought by the state and turned into a landmark.  We don't exactly have a plethora of Arkansans to honor.  Of course, Bill Clinton's childhood home is a a few miles down from me, and it is privately owned.  A big sign is out front that reads, "No tours."

Slaveboy just wondering...are great throngs of humanity travelling to Arkansas to view the house in which Bill Clinton was born?

Oh yeah man, I love Johnny Cash.

Back in the early eighties, when Canada Trust were installing their ATM's they called them Johnny Cash and had cutouts of him at all the locations. They even brought him on tour where I had the pleasure of seeing him in Kitchener. He had all kinds of old film footage playing in the background--absolutely dynamite.

At my local watering hole, there is a sticker on the fridge that says, "Johnny Cash is a Friend of Mine". I was sitting at the bar one day, and I heard a non-regular read it out loud. I just looked at him and said, "Mine too."

What's your point, Mike?  A lot of former President's childhood homes are tourist attractions.

The Cash family owns(ed?) property in Jamaica, and my family went there often when i was growing up. The Montego Bay airport was fairly small, intimate, and desolate. One visit, i believe in 1991, we were waiting in line and my dad began to whisper that Johnny Cash was in line behind us.

And there he was. He was dressed all in black, button-down long sleeves and pants in 100+ degree weather. He stood quietly while June and another lady chattered away animatedly.

My father turned around and introduced himself and us. Mr. Cash was very poilte and gentlemanly. He did not say much. He did take the time to shake hands and to ask where we were from. My dad asked how he was doing, and Mr. Cash thanked him and replied, " Just fine." There was a certain... quietness about him. i enjoyed meeting him.

Whenever i listen to the more heartbreaking and tormented of his songs, i think of the quiet man in black in the airport who heard that whistle blowin' but ended up just fine.

That is such a cool story.

I have a weird crush on Johnny Cash. (I came very close to naming my kitten after him but I am probably going to save that dubious honor for one of my future offspring instead.) You are so fortunate to have that memory.

No big deal slaveboy, just picturing the sign in his bedroom.."Bill Clinton Slept Here".....it could turn into a cottage industry.

I remember staying up late to watch the Johnny Cash Show back in the day when variety shows were on TV.   A lady I know named her dog after him---a black Tibetan terrier!

Me, me !    Loved him , love his music and voice and various collaborations with other great artists , and absolutely swoon over the story of his life with June .   They had the kind of love so many would like to taste !

I fell in love w/the "Man in Black" when I saw him on an episode of "Little House on the Prairie" entitled "The Collection". He & his wife were in it & they both had a fan in me.

Yes, I saw that one, it was just on a couple of weeks ago.  Was that June playing his wife??  wow, didn't realize, she looked much younger than he did.  Gotta love re-run channel.
