The pole I have is an X-Pole. It was given to me by a friend who had tried out a few diff. poles before she settled on one. Her first was a Lil Mynx and she had one heck of a horror story. Pretty much she was just playing around, doing some basic spins and nothing too crazy and the pole become dislodged from its mount. The ceiling mount was stable and fine but the pole itself came off the mount. She almost went through a sliding glass door. She was not a big girl at all, either, only weighed about 130 lbs or so at the time. I have also seen another girl who wasn't very big have her Lil Mynx come undone. She posted the vid on youtube so people could see. I would have to dig to look her up but yeah, I don't really think Lil Mynx is the best pole out there. Thats just my opinion though. *When my friend had her accident, she called Lil Mynx and the first thing they asked her was, "How much do you weigh?" The Peek a Boo and Carmen Electra poles are dangerous and notorious for falling down. If you go to Youtube and check out stripper pole accidents, the ones where the pole crashes down and the dancer goes flying; those would be Peek a Boo poles. I have heard Platinum Stages is really good but having only ever used X-Pole, I highly recommend them. My X-Pole came with a free dvd that broke down the basic grips and spins so you could try them out and I can put it up and take it down myself with no problem. The pole itself can either spin or be stationary, whichever you prefer. Its a bit pricey but its worth the money. Also, with a Lil Mynx, even if you take the pole down there's a thing on your ceiling. X-Pole leaves no marks and no trace of having ever been there once its down. This may or may not be a concern for you but I thought it was worth mentioning. Lil Mynx is safety rated for up to 200 lbs. X-Pole is safety rated for up to 350 lbs. I don't know about the other poles. Powder coated poles and brass poles are stickier which makes it easier to do pole tricks on them but frankly, as you use your pole, the metal gets warmer and the warmer the metal is, the sticker it is. Also, windex will become your best friend. I have heard people jokingly say they slather themselves in windex when they pole dance. I dislike the powder coated poles, personally. I think they're an eyesore. Its a matter of personal preference. Pole junkies is a really great, very supportive group of people. You should check them out. Studio Veena is a really great site as well. And of course, there are tons of vids on youtube that can help you learn the moves.
