Yeah, don't get me started on this one...

It's why I won't be an organ donor.  I don't want the SOB's looking at me like I am spare parts, rather than a patient.

No worry here... they would look ...point... and laugh.

"In February of 2006, Dr. Hootan Roozrokh was called to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center to harvest the organs from a terminally ill patient.

That patient, 26-year-old Ruben Navarro, was removed from life support but remained alive for several hours, which rendered his organs useless to transplant doctors.

Prosecutors said that Dr. Roozrokh ordered copious amounts of drugs be given to Navarro, but he still didn't die. After more than an hour passed, it was determined that Navarro's organs were no longer eligible for transplantation.

If he is found guilty, Dr. Roozrokh could face up to eight years in prison."

Thanks Vendaval, I feel vindicated.  I said what I said jokingly, but I'm seriously not an organ donor.  I refuse to do it every time I renew my driver's license.  I leave that choice up to my family, who care about me.  I don't leave that choice up to strangers.

Thing is this is a British story so its not the same as the US system, and there are indeed problems with the british system

That's right. In the U.S., the decision would be made by the victim's insurance company actuaries. The way... um... something... September 11th!

Omg, wish I had seen this long ago.

In a Detroit suburb, the police arrested a 17 year-old girl who was calling 911 to report that her father (who had recently had surgery) had collapsed and wasn't getting up.  When she thought that nobody was going to answer her desperate phone call, she said "F---!"  The 911 operator, who was a cop, heard this (unbeknownst to the girl) and then proceeds to lecture her about foul language rather than try to save a life.

Afterwords, the girl went to the police department to file a complaint....and they arrested her!
